White Knight - thanks for the PT version of what happened - now look to the other side of the fence.
The PT management were able to make themslves invisible when needed - they entered into various negotiations in November last year for support and services - this carried on until about the first week of November and then - nothing. A *lot* of people were left out to hang because of this. So don't try putting the blame solely on the drivers/teams - the PT management caused a lot of their own problems. And yes - I know this because I was part of these so-called negotiations that never went anywher... |

Can anybody confirm a report I am hearing that the Newman Peugots are being sold. Understand that one has been sold to Victoria , a 406 I think.
Wonder if this means the remaing cars might find their way back to Super Touring. |

Yes A 406 has been sold to someone from Melb. It left the workshop last Friday. It is going to be run as a U2L sports sedan, which should be very competitive. As for the other cars , they are all for sale.

You mentioned a few months ago if any of the regular posters here from your area wanted to see the cars they could come and have a sticky beak - is that still on offer ?

Thanks racer,
the 2 litre sports sedans I have seen have all been bullets 600Kg 12inch wheels , mid placed engines so I guess they will need to get some weight out of it to have any chance. |

The fastest U2L car in the country belongs to David Waldon here in QLD. It is a full space frame, with mid-mounted Nissan SR20 ex-British Super Touring engine. It's got a very slippery Honda Prelude body and pulls like a school boy. Twas on pole when the Super Tourers came to QR with the Power Tour, and was the best U4L car at the recent National round... and the word is that the car will be for sale at the end of the season.

I thought that ST cars are light enough already so how can U2L sports sedans be any lighter? Unless they start removing chassis braces and the safety cages? But that would be crazy?? Or do they use fibre glass bodies?

They use mostly fibre glass panels, lexon windows, they don't have a chassis as such, they are of a space frame contrustion. Very safe, think of a Formula Ford or a Nascar (without as many bars). The main difference is that they can't run sequential boxes (unless they are front wheel drive), and generally they are built on a much tighter budget and aren't fully developed. In theory they should all be faster than STs, but generally speaking when the STs are brought in from over seas they are well sorted and on the money.

Most of the S/Ts are around 1000kgs and the sports sedans weight is around 600 to 700Kgs. David Waldron's car is I think just over 700Kg.Yes they are all well built but don't seem to be able to last the distance.
While David,s car was very fast at QR it never finished a race |

Dave's problem at the PT resulted from a gearbox problem from qualifying which meant that the car had to be push started. That wasn't a drama, everything was fine and dandy until Mal Rea lost a wheel coming up to the start of the first race. So everyone sat there roasting on the grid, so Dave went off and did a lap while they mopped up the problem and everyone else turned their cars off. By the time he came back to the grid and stopped for the second set of parade laps, he was cooked, and thus couldn't get started (someone else back in the pack also overheated). Since then they've fitted a lot of decent cooling things (esp worried about the long races at the 500, but the cooling coped fine). But it is a gun, he'd scored several podiums from rear of field, and was on the front row in the most recent round.

So I guess we can realistically consider the '02 Championship already over? Alan Gurr in a BMW? Chalk up another championship for BMW.

Tim, for years I used to sit by the front door with a gun on Fathers Day waiting to shoot the mailman! It got to the point where I was convinced I was sterile |
