I enjoyed that. I wonder what its initially production was for? It sounds like the type of documentary shown to school children in the 60's.

Enjoyed that, really learned a bit more about the race. They left out the rain in the movie funnily enough

I was lucky to watch and hear that car at the Le Castellet Peter Auto meeting couple of months ago. It’s a bit of a bonus when you find it on the entry list! Mind you, the Panoz sounded pretty awesome as well- in a different way.

Imagine how the 333 would sound if they didn’t use the Mistral straight chicane....

I’ve been hitting up the ALMSOfficialVideos YouTube channel lately. I’m glad it still exists as I’m really enjoying a bit of a retrospective atm.

There’s part races of Le Mans from
2005 to be found too from various sources.

Still looking for FIA GT races from 2005-2008. Monza 2005 is up in three parts and I think I’ve watched a dozen times haha

Do like this one and not sure if already posted (there is a modern view of the public part of the old track with Lucien Bianchi's descriptive voice over and sub-titles).

Lucien Bianchi at Spa Francorchamps in 1962

I think it's the 2 VEV chassis/car which was wrecked shortly afterwards there.

The Silverstone and Portimao races from 2009 used to be up on youtube in full and great quality but they seem to have disappeared.

The biggest shame is the lack of races from 2005/6/7 apart from the ones above. 2005 was an awesome season long fight between Larbre and Vitaphone. Would love to see more of that.Re the 2006 season my theory is that the cable tv channel that aired that season doesnt exist anymore (well to my knowledge) and that footage has disappeared. Well unless SRO have it.

There's more on youtube but its mainly highlights of lower quality with regards to aspect ratios (I dont care if the footage is SD or HD but its hard to enjoy when the aspect ratio is wrong leading to a somewhat squashed video) so what I've found above is the best quality.

It's truly crazy how much the top class regressed in that mid-90s spell. Some terrific racing, some terrific cars and many of you who are old enough to remember it I'm sure have cherished memories - but it's incredible how slow and primitive those prototypes were, with many of them barely faster than much heavier road-based vehicles.

There wasn't really a lot of technology to separate the TWR Porsche with the 936 from two decades before.

TK, who recorded his first win in the car, remarked on how much changed in his career - from the H-pattern, flat-bottomed, heavily neutered Group C car in his first win to the space-ship diesel machine of his last one.

I'm currently on a rewatch of the 2003 ALMS season, and even there the gap between Audi and the privateers was relatively small and the Audi actually was beaten repeatedly by Panoz (the years before), the Dyson MG-Lolas and (I think in 2005) Zytek. The Audi was a very good and especially in the enduros a dominant car, but nowhere near as unbeatable (by anyone than other factory teams) as during the Diesel and Hybrid eras.

There's two reasons for that; budget and regulations.

In the early 2000s, the development of the sports prototype had reached the end of its cycle - I mean, how much can you really do with an open sports prototype? The main decision was which of the obscenely noisy and powerful engines you put in the back of it (or the front, in the case of Panoz). On top of that, the only budget the Audi board needed to sanction was slightly bigger one than the opposition, which they mostly spent on reliability and serviceability on the R8 as opposed to outright speed.

2006 was when the development curve really got opened up; and then between 2007 and 2018, there were always at least two major manufacturers forced to use R&D budgets on new technologies to beat each other.

When the dust settles on the current climate, we may well be left with something much simpler like the mid 90s again.
