Also, I think F1 should never allow fans back in. It was nice to not have the TV director cutting to shots of the fans, or artificially adjusting the microphone volumes to put "ooooo" and cheering noises in.

Ha! That's an interesting take.

Imagine if the Dutch GP had gone ahead. We'd have never seen any of the actual race. Max in a corner, cut to fans, Max on a straight, cut to fans obscured by orange flare smoke, Max obscured by orange flare smoke, turn down volume of airhorns so director can concentrate on the next corner's fans.

A race simply isn't a race without seeing Kanye West standing at the back of the garage.

Stroll has upped his game this year, certainly in comparison with Perez. However Hulkenberg is no yardstick really due to the weird circumstances.

Its strange that the TV did not show any of the Mercedes flyng laps. Yes, we know they were going to lock out the front row, but I would still prefer to see either of them over Strolls 2nd lap.

That's true, everyone is talking about there needing to be eight races on three continents, but will the winner be a true champion without the requisite Kayne West quota? I know that is why some don't rate Fangio so highly.

Though I did think his move on Ric earlier this season was fairly clumsy. And to be honest i cant think of any other passes Stroll has made and the only reason i recall that one is because Norris picked both their pockets afterwards.

Stroll is alright but imo lacks that thing (flair might be the thing?) that is immediately recognizable in drivers like Norris.

This "8 races on 3 continents" thing is confusing me. To be a World Championship? It isn't like, a law of nature. It's a rule written by the FIA. If the rule cannot be satisfied due to an unexpected world wide pandemic, then what difference does it make saying it was still a world championship? Will it become "The Formula 1 World Championship, except 2020" ?

Seems like fuss over nothing. It's a world championship.

The Mercedes are freakishly good. They look so smooth and stable, so reliable, theres no way of quantifying this but it might be the best F1 car ever made. Looking ahead to the second race next weekend the weather is going to be really hot again. We have seen in the past the Mercedes struggle in hot weather (Friday too) so things might be closer next week.

There was an interesting video on YouTube a few months ago....can’t remember if it was done by The Race or Autosport but it looked at the most dominant cars ever.....it was either the early 90s Mclaren or Williams but the percentage gap it had over the rest of the field was HUGE when compared to the modern Mercedes.

People look back to that era with fondness, but the ‘competativeness’ Was mainly down to reliability issues rather than cars being equally matched

Croft is trying to make up for it though - the "squeaky shrieker" just about burst my eardrums when LH snagged the pole.

Was just after midnight here in Oz - I was worried about getting a knock on the door and being accused of torturing someone's cat.

Oh & the Q session was quite different - the "slippery" T3/T4 caught a few out & been a while since a Lewis spin. They mentioned gusty winds and at Silverstone that can really make a big difference - wonder if it was that or something more than that?

Feels like the race could be fairly predictable at the front but man the midfield is nuts this year, really worth watching - oh and good again to see WGPE genuinely competitive in that midfield, rather than running as distant tail gunners.

Perhaps start a thread on this? Then the race threads can be about the races and this interesting topic can have a chance to shine. It would save you having to repeat the the same thing each time, as that could be boring.
