I was tempted by one phone that offered dual sims and a microSD card but the one I got has dual SIM OR single SIM and SD card. I think with 128GB storage and no plans to download large video files I can forego the SD card if I decide the one phone will replace the 2 (for different businesses) that I use currently. On the other hand having 2 devices does offer some security or backup in the event of breakdown, theft, etc. Not so much service as they both run on the same network. |

After several iPhones and some "experiences", we went for Meizu, Wiko View and more recently a Xiaomi redmi note, 128 GO. Two SIM cards, no need for an SD and quite happy with the battery capacity. The price is not a bargain but makes this one quite cost effective.
Impossible to connect them with our MacBooks, but it was already the case with the iPhones! Is it the right thread, by chance? Last edited by Gerard C; 8 Jan 2021 at 16:58. |

We do know that all the major suppliers have said that they have no plans to change the charging arrangements for roaming. I'm not denying that it is a possibility for the future, of course, but anything is always possible. I used to get a local SIM when I went toTenerife if I needed it for broadband if our on site system went down, but I can actually manage perfectly well without access on my phone as I really only use it for (short) calls and texts. |

Important for continental racers / pit crew who use a phone and/or tablet for pitwall live timing display. Spa 6 hours burns a lot of data, hence my EE almost limitless data contract.

Seems roaming agreements for most of majors are holding present prices for six months at least.

Correct. But you can rent a TV inside your box and there are some connections along the old pit wall. A talkie walkie can be worth too, only if it meets the RACB requirements. I seem to remember you have to have an agreement for any system used. Dunno if this rule is followed tho.

Indeed Gerard and it is quite easy to buy a local PAYG sim for data at a reasonable rate although it is less convenient.

Sometimes I wonder why all the onboard systems are not thoroughly checked. Cell phones, connected boxes to the cameras or satellite, all this kind of stuff is not period correct. Not historic. We should go back to the old days with only "panneautage" as we all had. A panel, a piece of chalk and… Bob!
You must have seen in Le Mans films, if not experienced it yourself, when the crew had to give a phone call to Mulsanne, to inform the driver and adjust the race strategy. If safety is involved, like the Coyote system for LMC, its a good move forward but only if its monitored by the CoC or chief marshals. IMO. |

Not something that tends to affect me as I have only raced at Spa once, although I was hoping to do so again at some point in the future. Does seem to state more expense and paper work for those wanting to race in Europe:

Will a carnet really be needed if the race car in the trailer is actually road registered, taxed and insured?

There is a lot of chat about this on various race/ rally related forums and fb sites in the last few hours and the consensus of opinion so far seems to be, yes. Although CSCC have suggested that they are trying to work on a compromise with their Belgian colleagues for cars with a V5, but no guarantees. Seems to me, however, that “compromises” will need to be worked out at MUK-Govt level rather than individual car club level.

I understand that trailers may need ID documents and insurance also. |

https://www.gov.uk/government/public...nd-cpd-carnets This one seems to say that carnets will not be needed for registered cars through most of Europe . |
