Valtteri Bottas’ proposed move to Alfa Romeo is expected to be confirmed this week, paving the way for George Russell to join Mercedes. He will replace outgoing countryman Kimi Raikkonen, 41, who will leave Alfa Romeo, almost certainly bringing down the curtain on his F1 career.

Russell will become Lewis Hamilton‘s teammate for the 2022 season to create an all-British line up for the first time in F1 since 2012.

Nyck de Vries in an F2 champ (the only one not in F1 I think) and also the next Merc Junior driver in the ranks. He has tested for Merc F1 and drives for them in FE.
Keeps the Merc / Williams 'engineering' link intact.

Would be a great move for both Bottas and Alfa Romeo. Williams may be ahead of Alfa Romeo in the championship currently, and seemingly improving, but Alfa Romeo have almost certainly had the better car all year. I remember someone at Alfa Romeo saying, 'we have the better car, Williams have George Russell' (it wasn't quite as much of a dig at their drivers as it sounds - https://www.racefans.net/2021/07/05/...-have-russell/) to explain the battle between them, and to be honest I think that sums up the situation. Raikkonen was obviously a great driver in his prime but since he returned to Ferrari has been declining, and that has continued into his years with Alfa Romeo. Bottas, on the other hand, is better than he gets credit for as he is not too far behind Hamilton, one of the best drivers of all time, and would surely be a massive upgrade on either Raikkonen or Giovinazzi. I think they should get a Ferrari junior (Ilott, Schwartzman or Schumacher, but the latter will probably stay at Haas) in the second car.

Apparently the Williams seat is between Albon, de Vries and Zhou with Albon the front-runner (perhaps an inside word from Mr. Russell for his mate?). Though IMO it would seem a shame to overlook Piastri, who seems to be an ace.

I believe he has the choice of Williams if he wants. It's Bottas himself who seems to prefer Sauber.

de Vries wasn't that great in F2 though, though nor was Albon, but Albon is a proven F1 podium driver. Surely Piastri, as a likely F2 champ on debut, has to be more impressive than de Vries as F2 champ in his third F2 season!?

By F2 standards, winning in the third season is not impressive. That's similar to Joylon Palmer...

Lots of sources are linking Bottas to Alfa. If he does end up there it will be interesting to see if he does any better than Kimi or Antonio has done

Plenty of strong rumours it will be Bottas and De Vries in Sauber-Mercs.

Rausing and Kallenius are fairly close. Kallenius is on the Tetrapak board.
