Tony George gets criticism all the time from IRL fans who just want him to stomp CART like a bug, but he won't do it because he's always taken the high street and won't stoop to the level of CART. Whether I like it or not thats the real deal!
You don't know Tony George very well, do you?

No, "I" don't. However, if you do, and you think he's workin his mojo against CART; do me a favor. Tell him to get busy and make a bit quicker work of 'em!

The crowd-figures at Texas have been good for the last couple of years now, and the IRL finale this year had a crowd of 86,000 (announced figure).

Using IRL attendance at Fontana as the basis for attendance series wide would be as incorrect as using the Chicago CART attendance as the measuring stick for their season.

In reality the IRL pulled very good numbers at many of their tracks. Crowds in excess of 50,000 included both Texas races, Kansas, Chicagoland and Kentucky.

Events in the 25,000-35,000 range were everybot as plentiful in CART as in the IRL. For every Phoenix, Pikes Peak and Nazareth there was a Laguna Seca, Cleveland or Chicago. Those kind of crowds are typical for both series. Not a point for either side to revel in.

IRL season and event attendance was greater in 2002 than any other year since its inception.

In terms of comparing attendance to street courses that CART runs, the IRL will never compare. Oval practice and qualifying is great for a purist but really kind of dry for the casual fan. However street events offer something unusual, exciting and very accesible that will always draw some sort of local crowd. Good for the promoters of these events without a doubt.

Just a few things to consider.

I have always been a CART fan in the past. So much so that I just wish that 2002 will be the last CART season for them and let them go out with some sort of dignity. I never really took to oval racing even when CART did it but I must say the I'd cars look 10 times better than the CART cars do!
