Glynn Scott
I'm interested in finding out the date (I think it was the late sixties??) of the tragic accident that took Glynn Scott's life when he collided with Ivan Tighe's car at Lakeside.
Also, what car was he driving - was it a Lotus, a Bowen, or what ?? He was a brilliant racer. Many thanks for any information you can give me about him. Ally Griffith ally@bribieisland.net |

From what I understand it happened at the 1970 Australian Touring Car Championship round at Lakeside, I am not sure of the date.
The book "Australian Touring Car Championship 25 Fabulous years" says about the 1970 Lakeside race.. "In fact, it became a race of great tension. In the racing car event preceding the championship round, Glyn Scott and Ivan Tighe had a devastating accident just past the pits, causing a lot of damage to fences which took an hour or so to repair, and while no official announcement was made immediately about Scott"s death, it was obvious both drivers had been badly hurt. Then when the tourers finally were launched away, there was a startline jam-up -- incredibly -- another accident on the site of the Scott/Tighe crash, with Brauer"s Mustang bent around the trackside armco and Brauer injured." This is a picture of Brauers crash. And a close up of the dust cloud. Last edited by Morris 1100; 28 Feb 2003 at 12:20. |

Date of Glynn Scott crash
Hi Ally,
The Lakeside meeting was on the 26th of July 1970 I believe. There is a great pic of Glynn Scott (taken by Ray Bell) on my website at: www.drive.to/beechey Go to the "1960's Photo Page" page on the website. There is a short history of Glynn Scott motors here: http://www.waynepark.com.au/history.html Chris. |
