should Panoz GTR be moved to GTS?
Whattya think, given the times the car runs, it would be a VERY competitive car in GTS.
Unfortunately it does not meet the production standards, but it truly does not belong in P1...maybe P2 at best... Maybe with a couple of turbos it could go as fast as a R&S or Dallara. |

well youve said it yourself. it doesnt meet production standards so cant be put in gts, it will just have to remain a p1 car. Anyway endurance racing isnt just about fast times, its about getting round the track for the whole 12 or 24 hours and completing the race. Look at the old lancia's. They went off at a huge pace at le mans but the 956 just kept on running and they retired and porsche won!

With a couple of turbos, it would be illegal (engine size limit with turbochargers: 4l).
No it should not be in GTS. That would be tearing up the rule book. It is a prototype, it must race as a prototype. |

The new GTS Panoz, when it eventually arrives, will be very similar to the GTR-1 according to Panoz.

Should the Panoz GTR-1 still even be racing in the ALMS? Personally I dont think so, its old, and its slow. The series needs new blood, not dinosaurs.

If they did run it in GTS they would set a new record for small restrictors and ballest weight.

It's difficult to estimate the whole potential of a car on one practice session.
Maybe the team is just doing the set-up for the race. |

Keep in mind that all the panozs have had problems taking the bumps at Sebring over the years.

I have to go with Saleen on this one. Go figure. But I've stated this many times. Why on earth would Labre run this car? It really has a slim chance at best of a LMP1 podium. Same goes with the Lotus. Labre would have had a better shot with a Panoz LMP1. All fine and good to do a "farewell" campaign, but if you're gonna spend the money, why not take a shot at being competitive. They should just throw it in GTS, at least something would be capable of running with the vettes.

It will only have 2 races this season though.
I think the Saleen and 575GTC are both at least as quick as the Vettes. The 575 is tto new, with little running at Sebring, and a new team. While most of the Saleens news bits and pieces will only come on stream after Sebring. |

I agree the LMP1 would be more competitve. My guess is that they bought the car so they could maybe put it in a musuem or something. What will the Panoz GTS use for an engine?

I'm not saying the Audi wouldn't be a good motor, but shouldn't a Panoz have the big thunder etc. Wouldn't the Elan V8 work good?

The Panoz should have whatever get's the job done. The goal after all is to win races. If that's an Audi V8 Turbo, then so be it.
