Jim W renders Sheila M speechless!!!!

Yes folks for only the second time in Donington Park’s history I was rendered speechless today (for a little while anyway).

During the lunchbreak I received a radio message inviting me to race control. Not knowing why I wandered along, to find that Race Control was full of BMMC Midlands Region Committee members. Not that that’s unusual in itself but they all looked happy to see me. So I hadn’t done anything wrong, then. Far from it apparently. Jim, as Chairman gave a lovely speech as he presented me with the Sylvia Edwards Off-Course Trophy for 2003. I really was speechless and honoured to receive the trophy, especially as it says in one of the newsletters that it is given to an off-course marshal who has done something outstanding in the year.

I’m not sure what the “something outstanding” I did during the year was, but I’m sure that whatever it was I couldn’t have done it without the support of the pit marshals I normally work with, so – thanks people.

The best of it was, my husband had known about this for months and hadn’t said a word. He even told me that the phone call he received telling him I’d been awarded it was to do with rescue training!

Sheila

Very many congrats Sheila. I have an idea how you felt as I got MAC Marshal of the Year without any warning - kind of takes it out of you doesn't it.

Very well deserved, ENJOY

Thanks Ian, Pity my husband had kept quiet about it - we could have arranged for a photo session with the trophy!

Thank you all for your kind comments and congratulations. Still not sure that I've forgiven my husband for keeping it secret though! A little warning would have been nice!

Sheila. Well done. And well done to the comittee for making Sheila speechless! I won that award a few years back and it is still on display at home.

It's only happened twice - the other time was when I was awarded the Bob Wollek Trophee at Donington last year!
