Please note the mustang test was done against Euro NCAP not ANCAP and done in Europe
From the ANCAP website: * "From 2018 ANCAP will align with Euro NCAP which will see the introduction of a number of new physical crash tests and performance assessments of safety assist technologies (SAT). The calculation method used to determine ANCAP safety ratings will also change. * This makes sense, as cars become more and more globalised. It should mean that we get more results for more cars, and quicker..... "How does the ANCAP test program compare with overseas test programs? There are now nine New Car Assessment Programs (NCAPs, or crash test programs) around the world and each conducts its own slightly different range of crash tests and assessments. The most similar test program to ANCAP is that of Euro NCAP. ANCAP harmonised test procedures with Euro NCAP in 1999 and participates in a crash test data exchange allowing a considerable number of European manufactured models to be tested in Europe and rated for the Australasian market. Eight of the nine test programs publish vehicle safety ratings using a star rating system (1 to 5 stars). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rates vehicles using a scaled rating system (Good, Acceptable, Marginal or Poor). The range of tests and test configurations differ across test programs as does the way in which the final rating is calculated. The specification of models available in different markets may also differ. For these reasons, results from overseas/differing markets should be used as a guide only. ANCAP is a member of Global NCAP, an overarching body, which aims to encourage the worldwide availability of independent consumer information about the safety of motor vehicles." " Will ANCAP be introducing new tests? Yes. From 2018 ANCAP will align with Euro NCAP which will see the introduction of a number of new physical crash tests and performance assessments of safety assist technologies (SAT). The calculation method used to determine ANCAP safety ratings will also change." |

Yes but the mustang is a 2 door sports unlike the volvo. The ncap site hasn't got any other current 2016/2017 sport/roadsters results.
In any event I was correcting the mistaken belief by some that the mustang test was an ANCAP test result and noting it was tested against a different benchmark and rating system. A falcon or commodore would would not get a 5 star rating under NCAP but would be a 2 or a 3. |

So the story gets deeper - the Euro model had a bunch of safety gear taken out of it compared to how it is sold in the 'states. I suspect we would get the Euro spec.
So it seems Ford has seen the error of their ways and they will put the safety features back in from around the middle of the year production... |

Ah don't you just love international politics and manufacturing. Or has the price of building in Asia, not as cheap as they thought |

Ah no - not 300 jobs to go. 10% staff reduction across some white collar areas in North America & Asia - only impacts 300 staff here so maybe 30 redundancies based on the 10% figure - it's all in the article. |
