Mitch Evans didn't beat anybody of note when he won this year's New Zealand Toyota Racing Series or the six-car (!) opening round of the Australian F3 series.

He's very young (15), but that's no guarantee that he'll cut it in the heat of world-class competition. In fact, his emotional immaturity probably will count against him when the going gets really tough.

Mark Webber said when he became involved with Christian Horner's GP3 team that he wouldn't automatically allocate a seat to an Australian. Like just about every other development formula team owner he's happy to take pay drivers.

Then again, MW Arden's three drivers haven't been setting the world on fire in the tests, which doesn't reflect well on the team and its ability to attract drivers in the future. Unless there's a sharp improvement, messrs Webber & Horner may have to put a top class steerer* in one of their cars to restore their team's credibility.

Notwithstanding Webber's GP3 driver selection policy, his decision to help a driver from another country rather than one of his compatriots justifies his resignation - or dismissal - as patron of the Australian Motor Sport Foundation, whose mission states "The AMSF will directly facilitate the progress of talented young Australians to the pinnacle of international competition ..."

* Australian Daniel Erickson would be a prime candidate, having done exceptionally well in British FF1600 last year and lapped at near-record pace in his first test of a 'slicks and wings' Formula Star Mazda development openwheeler on an unfamiliar track in cold weather last December. Unfortunately Daniel hasn't been able to raise the funds to contest a 2010 development series (http://www.demotorsport.com.au/19-03...g-funding.html).

In the absence of CAMS confirming Mark Webber's financial contribution to Australian racing driver development programs, that's just hearsay.

As a conclusion I assume:

Dean Smith and Josef Newgarden confirmed at Carlin.
Stefano Coletti confirmed at Tech 1 (only one clash of GP3 and WSbR).
Patrick Reiterer confirmed at Atech CRS.

Sten Pentus? Podium finisher in WSR, and has on occasion beaten Alguersuari, Hartley and Turvey.

Josef often was lightning-fast but error-prone in British FF1600 last year. He was the British FF championship 'rookie of the year', although he'd raced previously on some of the circuits during 2008.

ART seem way too strong for now... Hope the other teams will catch up very soon. Especially MWArden. Go Aussies!

Sorry to hear it Morris, as always. Needing likewise from young Morad directly.

Not a repeat of last year's F3ES. Oh wait, check that:

Quote:
1 Alexander Rossi ART GRAND PRIX 1:20.784
2 Esteban Gutierrez ART GRAND PRIX 1:20.873
3 Robert Wickens STATUS GP 1:20.873
Religiously strong team is ART GP, but we be keeping the faith in Status GP all the same.

Welcome to ten-tenths by the way. You don't have that first post to kick around any more.

There aren't any Aussie drivers at MW Arden, mate. The only Aussie is team co-owner Mark Webber, who's pocketing his non-Aussie pay drivers' cash.

GP3 will be covered as a highlights package on Motors. Not ideal. Well, no good whatsoever for me as i don't have sky.

here's the full listing of the race numbers for this season. thought that was a nice little distraction to run during a test session, definitely a different way of allocating numbers!

Great news, good for Dean! His hard work being an under-funded driver who keeps chipping away at it has paid off quite nicely there.

Yes, very good news for Dean and the Midlands!!

He could well be a dark horse for the championship.

Favourite's an awfully subjective term PT. (Not that there's anything wrong with it.)

More testing this week in Barcelona: 04/13 – 04/14 Barcelona (Spain) – Testing Session.
