When you have the best weapon, and you give him the best car in the field, the results aren't exactly surprising. I'm not taking away at all from JB's talent or ability, but he is a class above most in that field.

Is this process achieving its aims? If it is how come Bowe wins so many races? He must be running on very low revs but still wins. |

Because, even despite his advanced years, John Bowe was one of our top 5 best drivers in Australia for 15-20 years.
The majority of TCM runners are part-timers and while good drivers, not to the standard of what Bowe was in the past. It's not surprise that the likes of Steven Johnson, Bowe and previously Glenn Seton & Andrew Miedecke were doing so much of the winning in the class Given Bowe has been a regular in the series for nearly 10 years and always in a top line car (as opposed to Jim Richards who's Falcon and Javelin haven't always been on front-running pace), his stats are hardly surprising. |

Interesting comments in here about the XD and the current non-allowance of a VB Commodore
https://www.speedcafe.com/2017/12/12...tang-2018-tcm/ While I don't disagree with the notion behind not wanting the VB in at this stage, i'm not sure how "fair" it is to open the eligibility date up to one marque but not another. And I guess it won't be long before people are wanting to run RX7's and Bluebird's as well? |

Is this greed, wanting to beat the field he has already beaten? Surely a freeze would be better for majority of competitors. |

Why can't Mr Johnson and team challenge themselves with an unknown, like Mr Richards has done with the Javellin?

His won't be the only XD.
Several others are actually in the process of being built. The Johnson car allegedly hasn't advanced from the napkin yet. |

They've capped the amount of XD's that are allowed to be run though, and are excluding people from wanting to run the equivalent GM-H product.
Therefore it seems like only a few are allowed to challenge themselves |

I personally don't like the idea of XD's running. TCM has always been 60s and 70s cars, and even though the XD started in 79 it was still being made in the early 80s.

Are Johnson and Bowe good for TCM?
Johnson seems to have only entered as his only hope of getting a National title. |

Johnson was a failure as a Supercar driver, his father said so in his book.
Notice he hasn’t been an Enduros co driver And notice he didn’t do much in his Toyota 86 drives So looking round for where he could possibly beat a field of amateurs he chose TCM. He obtains the best car, has good sponsorship and then surprise surprise he wins his national title. This is a farce and detracts from the fun that TCM should be....... |

I read the same book, and will read that paragraph again.
I don't believe he branded him a failure. Perhaps you should shake that chip from your shoulder? |

Steven Johnson's only "failure" (for want of a better word) was that he was too loyal to DJR, he could have had his pick of a number of drives elsewhere in the mid-2000s if he wanted.
When you come SJ's results to that of his teammates over the years, you'll see he was anything but a failure in the main game. The likes of Johnson, Bowe, Seton, Richards etc... possibly are 'too good' for TCM, but isn't the whole category in many ways built on the heritage these drivers were a part of and celebrating that era? And many of the drivers on the grid i'm sure are attracted to the class with the likes of Johnson and Bowe on the grid, rather than turned off because it might lesson their chance of a win (Isn't that why they have three classes in TCM anyway?) |

I see that Garwood's Torana is for sale. Only $185,000.
http://www.my105.com/ListingDetails/id/19653/latest/1 And includes his TCM franchise. Would indicate he is another to leave TCM Is he afraid of coming XD? TCM really needs to have a good hard look at itself , before only Bowe and Johnson left. Car costs are completely out of control. |
