There’s no such thing as a midfield any more. There’s the top three teams, then everyone else scrapping for position. Sauber are still towards the back and are clearly nowhere near engine-mates Haas in terms of speed. And I say that with no pleasure.

Leclerc is ahead of his fellow rookie Sirotkin, so not a bad start

i think the 107% time was 1:28 something and the Saubers were well within that range at 1:25 something...usually there is one team/driver that gets close to running afoul of 107% at the first race but not this year. 3secs separating the top and bottom so its got to be seen as a positive that Sauber showed up and dont find themselves miles behind! |

I see where Jorg Zander Sauber's technical director is leaving the team and no mention of the reason.
http://classic.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/135748 Reading between the lines I suspect the team were not ready for him to leave but was he pushed? |

It seems strange to push someone running the technical side of the team the day after its best result in 3 years (a 5th and a 6th in 2015) and prior to that a 6th in 2013. You have to go back to 2012 to see a better start to a season for Sauber.
I would think it more likely he has given notice that he has another job lined up within F1 and has been put on immediate 'gardening leave'. |

Hmm, just two days after voting yes for aero changes for next year, when Ferrari voted no. Coincidence??
Not really surprised TBH. It was Zander that lead the cries for Kaltenborn to be ousted. And now he himself is ousted. Great move by the owners there! Kaltenborn had the team's interest above her own whereas Zander had his own interest ahead of Sauber F1. Last edited by F1Guy; 3 May 2018 at 07:39. |
