Well, I wouldn't mind it if John Barnes would run Gary Peterson's AFS Racing with driver Sebastian Saavedra out of his old Panther Racing shop for a full season.
I've never been much of a fan of that team but this series needs new teams and new entrants so I'd surely welcome them back. Yet, if I recall correctly, Panther Racing has been auctioned off completely, so its return is highly unlikely. |

What a rubbish week for the series! I hope things are a bit brighter in February.

You could probably make a parallel championship with all the races that were cancelled in the last 15 or 20 years.
Wonder what the sponsors think about a 5 months season. Anyway, I guess that's it for Vitor Meira. Feeling bad for him, Las Vegas 2011 will probably remain his last race. |

This Racer article states Indycar is in talks with CoTA and other unnamed tracks as a possible replacement for Brazil, potentially joining the PWC weekend at CoTA. I can't really see it happening, as they already have their schedules/ticket sales set and I'm sure wanted a stand alone weekend to start their season. Would be nice for next year though.

Disappointing, hopefully they can add a replacement event. COTA, Road America.

Joining Pirelli World Challenge at COTA would be cool. Even if it was just a single-day event with the old aero kits.

With the improved oval aero settings - could indycar run a 1.5 mile oval - plenty of them around.
Trial the 1 day meeting that Robin Miller speaks so highly about. Practice, qualify and race all in one day/ night. |

They should drive at Laguna Seca or Road America. An oval would be awesome (maybe Texas Motorspeedway)

There's already a date for TMS, 6th June, but they should try and look for an alyernative to Brasilia. The only problem though with cramming a season into 5 months is, it doesn't really give much room for manoever regarding racing other tracks as they will have probably filled their slots. That 5 months is pretty much the height of the racing season, due to the weather.

According to this article, the race was cancelled due to concerns about wasting public funds, despite two thirds of the tickets being sold.

I can understand them not wanting to prop up a comparatively small series, particularly after the flack that they received over the world cup. I just wish they'd given more than a month and a half's notice, or ideally not said that they could host the race when they couldn't in the first place.

Racer suggests that Laguna Seca offers their September 11 weekend (SCCA World Challenge + Indy Lights).
But Sonoma would disagree with that... |

I think they might replace the event just not on that specific date.
Indycar needs to be in Brazil though. If there's some easy popularity to be won; they gotta do it. |

IndyCar definitely needs to be in Brazil and South America in general, there's a massive ground roots motorsports fanbase and IndyCar needs to take adavantage of this, in order to compensate for the dwindling home fanbase.

The Rally Dakar got plenty of coverage in Argentina and Chile, and the Formula E raced at Punta del Este and Buenos Aires, and Argentina also has MotoGP, WRC, WTCC and WRX.
But it's not like ratings for those championships are massive. Football dominates. |

It's important that IndyCar's 2016 calendar is better than the one of this year. Reportedly, Miles is working on a proper season final event. But they'd better stay away from contractually fixing it to Labor Day for years to come, because that's exactly how the Surfers Paradise event was lost back in 2009. Also, finding a sponsor for the Triple Crown Prize is of utmost importance, even if it's just through an insurance. It would help in promoting Fontana and Pocono, and thus help in keeping them on the schedule, too. After all, Pocono is in its final year of the contract in 2015. It's too bad that Mark Miles has so far thrown out almost everything that his predecessor Randy Bernard has introduced, apart from the DW-12 (obviously) and Pocono. Here's hoping that Pocono will be a success this year and extend the contract. Then, there is the question of adding new events for 2016. I guess it's not possible to get into further ISC tracks, but SMI might be possible. IndyCar should really be reaching out to V8 Supercars for sharing a race weekend with them for an Australian race. However, I guess an Argentinian race is not likely because of the economical situation there. Maybe there is a chance to have a go at Mexico City? Given the recent cancellation, I'm afraid Brazil will have to wait a little longer for its next IndyCar race because now, the lawyers will have to sort things out first. IndyCar should reach out to Montreal. That would be so cool. |

Yes, he did. Now imagine, this year someone actually manages to win the Indy 500, the MAV-TV 500 and the Pocono 500 - and basically get nothing for it but accolades. I'm rather certain his team could well use the big payout to help with running an additional car next season.
With both Fontana and Pocono in the final year of their current contract, I'm a little worried about the 2016 calendar already. Also, as planning next year's schedule must start some time around now, it is rather certain that the 2016 season finale will also have a date near Labor Day in early September, which is clearly something sponsors do not like. Here's hoping Mike Lanigan is able to add his Shell sponsored event back to the 2016 schedule, even if it's at the Houston track again. Yet, IndyCar would better add at least two or three more new races because with the two at risk it's better to be well prepared. Kevin Kalkhoven's group who promotes Long Beach should reach out to V8 SuperCars again for a joint effort between the two series in Australia again. They surely could find a suitable place and date for this. By the way, what happened to Daniel Abt who tested for Andretti Autosport at the end of last year? If he's out of the picture at that team again, the likelihood of a co-headlining event with DTM at Eurospeedway Lausitz is out the window again. And since the German GP of F1 is most likely not going to take place in 2015 because the Nürburgring was sold, it's rather likely more people in Germany would be interested in visiting an IndyCar race. |
