And it seems that the 2010 regs have hurt Peugeot more than Audi, because the 2010 R15 is at least equal to, if not faster than the '09 car, while the 908s are slower than they were last year. Having to ditch the DPFs may be a sign that the Pugs are struggling for power, as straightline speed seems to be their only defense now, as only the Intersport car is marginally faster though the speed trap.
Last night, Peugeot consisantly ran between 200-203 mph though the speed traps, while only once did an Audi get significantly above 200, and that was just above 201. The Audis may catch the Pugs in traffic and the twisty stuff, but that back straight may be Peugeot's savior. |

So's yours--the Pug's advantage is straight line speed, something that's of limited use in traffic. For the Pugs to have a 3-5mph straight line speed advantage and have the fastest Audi only .4 of a second slower means that the Audi is more agile.
Go back to PLM '08. The Pugs had a similar speed advantage, but McNish got through in traffic and had the more agile car--he got jammed up in traffic less in the Esses than the Pug did. That's not to ignore other variables--it was McNish vs Klien, who no longer drives for Peugeot, being replaced by AD. It was the R10 vs the 908. And McNish had better tires than the Pug did. Still, the Audi R10 had an agility advantage, while the Pug gained an easy couple hundred feet on the Audis on the back straight, and who's to say that the same won't happen again. We've also seen how wide Audi and Peugeot can make their cars when they need to. |

AD also took himself out in traffic last night, to his credit by his own admission, and nearly made Peugeot have to re-build an entire car. At least he admitted that he made a mistake, and rookies make a few.
I'd have to say that on paper that Peugeot has a slight advantage, because if you have a straightline speed advantage, a more agile car can equal the lap time, but it's definently an advantage to defend your position. IE, unless it's like '08, and the Audis mount a late race banzi run on soft tires after a full course yellow or can work some magic in traffic, I'll be a hard race for both Audi and Peugeot, but the Pugs got the straightaway speed, and what would you rather have--agility or brute speed? |

I love how the pug fans think the car is gods gift to men, it's fast and always has been but it only managed to win Lemans once, only won petite once and only won sebring once. Oh boy best car ever

+ Le Mans lap record + 3 Spa 1000km wins (against Audi) ..etc. Is the 908 the best car ever? I don't think any car can be labeled best car ever, there have been lots of cars that have dominated sports car racing in their time.. Is the 908 the best ever car build to the LMP1 regulations? Of course.. The car is four years old now and has not been upgraded much since 2008, the aero has remained largely unchanged from the base design that dates back to 2006. And still, Audi hasn't managed to build a car that can match the 908 in terms of speed. During the course of the 908's run, Audi has build 1 1/2 new cars, they´ve thrown everything they have at it...replaced drivers etc. And still, the 908 remains unbeatable when it comes to pace. You´re right, it's competition history is weakened by Peugeot's inability to get results..especially in 2008 when they had the speed over Audi and failed to win Le Mans, the PLM and another LMS championship. Still, mistakes made on the pit wall don't take anything away from the car's performance which is still unmatched almost four years after it's debut. |

Here something I found on Speed TV.com, that Oliver Quesnel isn't at the track at PLM. He's still boss of the Citroen WRC team, so he and a few other Peugeot Sport personel aren't there, and tech director Bruno Famin is in charge.
Also, the Audi R15 that was rebuilt today was repaired in just over 3 hours, because Audi had a tub that was preped to be built, as well as Brad Kettler saying, like the R8 and R10, the R15 is highly modular (paradoxily, it can take up to 5-10 minutes to make a minor set up adjustment, namely changing a front shock, something that in the low tech world of NASCAR can be done in 15 seconds). That seems to contrast with Peugeot, who had to work from about 9:30 or so last night to 3:30 this morning to get their car fixed. Makes you wonder if there was some repairable tub damage and the Pug guys wanted to save the spare tub, or if the 908 just that hard to work on? |

Just read on Speed that ACS are out for the weekend. What a shame, I was looking forward to seeing what they could achieve (yes I know its a debut).

Yes it is a shame. I really would of liked for them to be out there in the thick of it so they have an idea of what the car will need for next year. L.P. |

Same thing happened at Le Mans both on the Peugeot and on the Audi. Nobody who was supposed to care did indeed care about it, so... it's probably going to stay like this. After all, these cars are only ever going to race once more after this weekend (unless someone is rich enough to run a grandfathered one next year).

Interesting to me as mainly an F1 fan, that he aproached his first ever LMP qualifying in the F1 way...going out early to set a 'Banker lap' Banzi 3rd lap, then pitted to watch what his teammates response was. |

Yes. And probably #9 on soft too.
It would explain the situation, because sincerely in both teams the car which qualifyed faster is the supporting one. #7 of Mc Nish and #08 of Montagny are obviously the leading cars. Anyway the gap is so tight this time I expect the race to be really close in P1. A battle like Sebring 2009 would be awsome! Warm up is about to start, I can feel the pressure rising already... EDIT: Huh, three laps completed an first red flag already... |

So with the number of broken tubs the #7 Audi guys are running the Le Mans winning chassis in the race today. Their third in the space of a week.
