I'm not sure if it's a great era for drivers...

Hamilton definitely bettered Rosberg at Bahrain. Rosberg on pole, Hamilton 9th, and he still beat him in the race 5th vs 9th.
Nico does seem to be easier on tyres. Funny, because Schumacher was always better than Nico on tyres - although back then the Mercedes was worse than everyone else no matter what they did. |

Easy for Rosberg in Spain it would seem.
I am sure the usual mentalists will jump on the "Hamilton chews his tyres" thing (remember that Turkey race five years ago!?!), but the Pirelli tyres are so unusual it is hard to tell. In Bahrain the reverse happened, Rosberg burnt his up and Hamilton cruised through the field to easily better him. The tyres are an absolute lottery that not only destroy racing but make intra-team comparisons an absolute nightmare. There is no skilled tyre conservation, it is simply hoping for the best. |

I think you make a good point here. Neither the teams nor the drivers fully understand the way these tyres work. At best we could say that they're 'inconsistent' and at worst, 'a lottery'. With that in mind, it makes inter or intra team driver assessment impossible.

Isn't a case of tyres that don't work at all ?

Nico seemed to have learned from that experience, as he wasn't fighting for position as hard in Spain and he clearly benefited with better tire life. Unfortunately, I'm not one who enjoys the idea of tires that punish drivers who battle for position. I know it's a fact of racing, this happens in any racing series where tire life is a factor, but not to this degree. |

As I said before, somewhere, Rosberg is the new Trulli.

I think that both Rosberg and Hamilton have both done their fair share of holding up the traffic and dropping back down the field, this season. Having said that, Hamilton should easily come out of this as the better driver of the two, shouldn't he?

The worrying thing for Mercedes coming out of Barcelona is not so much that the cars went backwards during the race but more that they don't seem to know why.

And it's not just a matter of the tyres 'not working' because its quite clear that sometimes they do work and not when you would expect them to. |

Rosberg is really showing well against Hamilton. Three poles on the bounce, beating a man everyone agrees is very fast over a single lap. Maybe his light has been under a bushel after all.

I really hope they 1-2 in any order as long as they don't crash or make a mistake racing eachother.

Hamilton doesn't seem completely comfortable in the car, but Nico is still showing incredible qualifying pace. |
