It was this very topic that had me sitting with Kent CC head honcho Paul Carter as mentioned previously. KCC had rather mischievously announced that they were going to flag out all council vehicles to Belgium as they were legally obliged to source the best deal when spending ratepayer's money. It was all b****cks of course ( must have been Labour in govt at the time and Tory KCC wanting to make a point) but I believe it went some way towards changing govt thinking on the tax hauliers paid, which by any reckoning was hugely out of step with Europe. |

We could do with a bit of that sort of approach now!

THere's a clip on FB (posted by one of the "leave" groups, obviously, but it could be true ) of the Calais port boss refuting point blank that there will be any delays on trucks entering France....There's a video clip but I can't seem to copy it * ....quote "Calais port boss, Jean Marc Puissesseau drops truth bomb on hysterical claims of chaos at the border in the event of No Deal: "It's wrong! It's not true! There will not be more delay. The trucks will be passing as they do today."" * Might be able to view it here: https://www.facebook.com/leaveeuoffi...0433133816231/ |

All over Twitter too. It does support my previous point that Europe doesn't want to lose the UK.

On the other hand checking all the trucks would be one way to gain some control over immigration.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan...shire-46815584 And maybe School Ski trips should be thoroughly checked too. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan...shire-46781070 |

Other Ports like Ouistreham and Bilbao do check freight, but again, not to such a consistent standard. I wonder what the checks are at The Hook and Zebrugge, considering they are not in the areas mainly targeted by migrants.... |

Agreed about Calais and Dunkerque, there are several teams working hard and doing good. Yes, it doesn't work 24 H and seven days but at least some good people got the right training. They split the trafic with a good efficiency and they do know that, for instance, a Vito and a race shuttle are no freight.
As to people announcing chaos turning themselves into Nostradamus of the Brexit, drop dead, let them go to hell. You can prepare yourselves to see adjustments after, probably a matter of days or months. When Peter says EU doesn't want you to leave, do you think its because Germany or France suddenly felt in love with You or because they just realized how much they need your money? Good question for the Jeopardy version under twelve… . |

I refer back to my point about France not getting its Welsh wings.
But generally it appears businesses are taking all this on board and resolving the problems. |

It's because businesses and governments have pinned their hopes on China.

I hope no one is preparing something around the different types of driving licences. Like a special exam do drive in UK. Reason could be the different sides-trafic and steering wheel- and so on…
What has been posted as to the trailers looks the same as we have, a result of harmonisation around this. |

Terence, I wondered the same thing. (If you’re talking about the truck on the M6 couple of days ago? Our media mentions 27 detained....) No mention of the where the truck came from, but driver arrested was ‘of no fixed abode’, which suggests not British......
But as said earlier, Calais and Dunkirk have very sophisticated equipment to detect stowaways. I’d be surprised if at either of those ports, but I’ve no idea how vigilant the Euro ports serving the UK East coast are.... Last edited by Mike Bell; 11 Jan 2019 at 06:18. |

According to one paper this morning the Branston experiment cost £50k to stage- £550 paid to each truck operator. Would just about have covered my fuel costs from here....

While following the Dubai 24 hrs livestream I thought I'd do some research on carnets. The following applies, especially Section 5.
https://www.gov.uk/government/public...nd-cpd-carnets Before I ring them blind on Monday, does anyone know somebody at CARS who could give us the low-down, costs, time to issue etc? |
