The French say, "plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose." Sounds romantic. But all it means is the more things change the more they stay the same.

If you're Oreca or Oak you've got to ask where the growth for your product is likely to be? The Americas are diverging (and the potential clients know about you already), and Europe is highly competitive - if the AsLMS takes off and grabs some local interest then there's a lot of scope to sell competitive machinery out there.
Bundle in the opportunities for overall wins, the goodwill you're going to gain with the ACO, and the benefit of being there when the economic environment picks up, and I think there's a lot of arguments in favour of going there if you're a manufacturer. |

I think there will be a few surprises - Mugen say in the nest issue of Racecar that they want to run a CR-Z in Asian Le Mans. I think that Lexus will be built into something for Asian Le Mans and I'd wouldn't raise my monobrow that high if the spare Prius chassis rolled out at some races.
SARD and TOMS both have LMP1 ambitions too. |

I'd say run the Toyota TS030 being that they're both Toyota related businesses.

Wait a second... LMP1, but where to start? There is no P1 i AsLMS, also in ALMS there could be no P1s after 2014... More teams from Asia in FIA WEC?

He raced for the Porsche China Budweiser team in Carrera Cup Asia. No links to Audi.

VAG own both Porsche and Audi, Romain Dumas and Timo Bernhard never had links to Audi since they raced Porsches but look where they ended up....anything is possible.

Well..Absolute Racing are pretty likely to run in AsLMS. They organize the entire Audi R8 LMS Cup China championship and do StarChase's (Porsche dealers in China) entries in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. Even ran Mortara and Dumas' cars at Macau Grand Prix. Practically an Audi works team, they have a massive HQ at Shanghai International Circuit. Also, if you visit the Shanghai and Zhuhai tracks, you will find that Audi has dumped A LOT of money into racing in China. They renamed the tracks to "Shanghai Audi International Circuit" and "Zhuhai Audi International Circuit".
I also hope that Asia Racing Team, EKS and Meritus some how find their way into the entries. All very big teams in Asia so it would be a shame if they cannot cough up the budget for it. LKM Racing purchased a GT3 R to run in Sepang 12 hours with Siu/O'Young/Sawa and Macau GP with Sawa. Maybe they can run in GT as well? Also don't forget Clearwater Racing, Direction Racing and the other GT Asia regulars. BuddyClub AAI also have MP4-12c with Akira Iida, Jun San Chen & Morris Chen. Another interesting thing to note is that OAK Racing have already established connections to interested parties. I believe they are in contact with Paul Ip, KC Motorgroup team boss (FNippon team). KC Motorgroup have big links to TOM's in Japan so this will be interesting to see it pans out. OAK Racing chassis and Toyota engine anybody? From how I see it, GT grid is looking very colorful. All we need now is just a couple more LMP2 cars. I think a LMP2 and GTC only grid would be for the best, as interest in LMPC is nonexistent and GTE cars are no where to be found in Asia. |

Good post . Im not really up to speed on most Asian series teams , as I dont really follow their respective championships , so good to here from someone who obviously follows them , thanks for that .
Whats Ricky Chiba up to these days , and the Taisan team ? SARD ? JLOC ? Any idea about Tokai University and their Hybrid Courage ? Anybody showing interest in an Oreca/Nissan yet , or a HPD ? |

Does what looks like an Oak pullback from the US market with them pulling the chassis they had been supplying to Conquest (according to John Dagys on Speed) spell possible positive news for a Morgan appearing in Asia?

The word flying in the paddock says OAK is in good terms to run 2 cars in AsLMS. That would be a massive blow for Oreca in the LMP2 tiny Asian market. They were the first to arrive in Asia and hired a guy at full time in Shanghai (who can't fix a root in a brothel!). Oreca partnered Taiwan racing team PTRS, however, the parties quickly realized that their partnership was a failure and disagreements followed.

Atlantic Racing Team (ATL) is actively pursuing entry with one or two LMP2 Class cars into the new Asian LeMans Championship Series (ALMS) for 2013.

In the ongoing series of interviews for various stakeholders in the 2013 Asian Le Mans Series, this week we look to India and the up and coming driver Armaan Edrahim.
