GroupOfOne should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
So we've got:
  • #3 Joylon Palmer
  • #4 Benhamin Bailly
  • #5 Ricardo Texeira
  • #6 Armaan Ebrahim
  • #7 Ivan Samarin
  • #10 Benjamin Lariche
  • #11 Jack Clarke
  • #12 Kelvin Snoeks
  • #14 Sergey Afanasiev

Not too overwhelming is it.

I noticed from the drivers list on the F2 website that six other slots have "Driver Confirmed - TBA" against them, while nine slots are open or TBC.

yep, he was very good last year

he says he prefered F2 over GP3, not sure if I should believe that

btw, shouldn't we expect Richard Plant to be announced soon?

Good to see Vasiliauskas back, a real surprise last season. Obviously has plenty of natural talent.

Paul Rees doesn't really belong at this level. Less impressive than Palmer, Brundle and Clarke in FPA and they hardly set the world alight in F2.

Although Dean Smith said he was close to a deal, it appears he's looking at BTCC too:

Vasiliauskas is quite good and maybe Afanasiev too but the rest are rubbish. F2 has lost any credibiltiy it had. Apprently Palmer is now even offering cheap deals to better drivers to try and raise the level. Even if they sign Dean Smith, hes hardly F1 material and only won FRenault in his 4th year. It seems no decent drivers want to race in this championship and will only go there if its thier only choice. F2 is about half the budget of GP3 or F3 but still no one wants to do it.

On what basis is Dean Smith poorer than Vasilaukas or Afansiev in anything other than budgetary areas?

He is an excellent driver as proven in FR and a superb F3 debut Bighand. If anything he is better quality than the F2 series he may have to do to keep his name in windows!

I ddn't say hes not as good as them, I think hes a good driver, just not F1 material like i said. Point is this F2 is not attracting the sort of drivers who will make it to F1, which is surely it's purpose. Of course making it to F1 is more about money than talent and drivers like Smith may have no other option. This may be the biggest problem for F2, if the drivers are there because they don't have much backing then they won't progress anyway. If Smith does F2 this year he would stand a good chance of winning it, however if the standard is so low it is unlikly to get him an F1 seat. The prize F1 test is of far more value than the F2 title.

PULSERACING should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The problem with F2 seems to be the lack of interaction with engineers and crew as its not a team based formula and the top guys prefer to get the full experience of working closely in an individual team such as fortec or manor. GP3 or F3 is where the good money goes and Vausiliaukas will no doubt do that next season. And F2 is not cheap as the budget can hit £350K if you include extra testing ,travel and hotels. The WSR is a much better formula and F2 seems to get overlooked by much of the motorsport media in place of it.

Will Bratt joins F2!

http://www.formulatwo.com/news/will-bratt-joins.aspx

His GP2 Asia season with Coloni was very disappointing, but he was good in Euroseries 3000. Good addition to the field.

Will Bratt is definately a good signing. He has been quick in everything he has raced so far, his GP2 Asia campaign didn't go to plan but he certainly showed that he is capable of carving his way through the field.
