Know just what you mean...I used to take great delight in demonstrating oversteer control operating the steering wheel one-handed just to watch the IAM guys' horrified expressions.........though when I promised not to tell anyone if they tried it, the more switched on ones admitted it was a lot easier than wheel shuffling..... IAM also had an annoying habit of adjusting the mirrors before setting off, despite my protests that (a) I needed them where they were set so I could check the rams on the frame were operating equally, and (b) that no beggar was going to be overtaking them anywhere round or training course....... |

Remember having to demonstrate hand signals on my test(s) in 1967 (failed November, passed December).
On the test I passed the examiner stopped me at one point and asked me why I'd given a hand signal.........I stammered something about "being on my test", so he asked if there had been anyone ahead or behind to see it? When I said "no" he suggested I only use signals when necessary...... He also asked me at the end what you should do when you saw a Steep Hill sign - "change down a gear" I promptly replied..........getting the response "Why didn't you?" ...... A discussion ensued about us not having been on any hills long enough to merit such action, and a further discussion about why such action was called for......ending in his comment - "You know what you're doing and why - just put it into practice!" and handed over the prized pink slip! |

Once manufacturers start producing Level Five autonomous cars, driver's license will be redundant. Now isn't that a pleasant thought?

Is it me but have any of you noticed how young these Clerk of the Corse chaps are these day . Bit like police men I guess . We were out in Copenhagen a few weeks back and I raised my hand before this young chap started talking . His reply was he was 42 . Well that's young in my book . Anyway he was a jolly good chap and I did not see him again that weekend so good news . Got to Nurburgring and I was summoned up as soon as I finished qualy. The Germans said I had not signed on . That's a new one . Bit embarrassed as I had not .

I'm having a very happy day. Granddaughter just had results of her GCSEs, and breezed through all 10 of them, putting her in the top 3.5% in the UK.
Obviously takes after me! |

Gerard C. Yes, Level Five autonomy will mitigate wife's situational awareness issue, can't wait! However a Level Five Jeep Wrangler sounds like an oxymoron, counter intuitive at best, taking all the fun out of driving a Jeep.

Do you have a patent for your Taco Jeep, wrapped with a garage door?

It was like the Jeep was in a pup tent. Fortunately everything was reparable. I paid for all the repairs out of pocket, too embarrassed to call either the automobile or homeowner's insurance companies!

Interesting as I'm in the middle of an embarrassing situation with insurers at the moment. A week ago my wife set off down the drive on a miserable, wet morning and manouvered to her left to negotiate the gateway and straight in to my car's rear quarter panel! We had been out the previous evening and I was going to pull ahead of her car but she asked me not to go too far forward as she didn't want to get wet between car and house door. We are with the same insurer so two lots of deductibles no doubt.

I'm sure that the insurance company will be well used to such claims!
This came up on the Interweb this morning. You'd thought the current owner would have taken a little more care of the car....... https://www.rmsothebys.com/ff17/ferr...lietti/1704895 |

There are, already, enough rodents, albeit the two legged variety, in the motor trade. Don't go around proposing yet more!
