Before porsche rs spyder ALMS official penske program, Bernhard had not any prototypes experience, and in few years he became one of the best, if not the best, audi lmp1 driver. Lieb can do the same path IMHO.

Porsche need someone who can come in and perform right now though. Not in three year's time.

I think he is able. He wouldn't be testing if they had no faith in him. If he ends up in a seat, he impressed.

How many other Porsche GT drivers are testing the lmp? So he must have stood out.

Given his technical expertise he could be very valuable if he's also sufficiently fast behind the wheel. None of the other drivers are also engineers!

Can someone explain in a nutshell Lieb's "engineer" status now and in the past? This is often mentioned but never read anything about it. Does he also have a degree or something?

Yeah, I think he was willing to step away from racing and put his priority on engineering as a longer and more secure career, but Porsche of course let him do both. Pretty nice setup.

car did for sure some laps today, late morning...access to the Autodromo is forbidden, even the outside zone from "Prima variante" to "Ascari" (not strictly Autodromo but, instead, Monza park) is covered with security personnel...when Peugeot did the same some years ago the "Prima variante" outside grandstand was open, not the case this time...I prefer to stay out of trouble so I won't try to get in, maybe a pro can consider it, to get some worthy ($$$) spy pics

for some unknown reason, yesterday porsche started the test with a 2008 RS spyder evo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhdVv...layer_embedded the green, white and red kerbs confirm that is a genuine and fresh video and not a 2008 clip. |

I was trying to catch a glimpse of the helmet to see if it was Marc Lieb by any chance, maybe getting an acclimatization run in a relatively recent LMP car before actually jumping in the 2014 LMP1 car?
EDIT: Scratch that, Endurance-Info has a clearer picture of the car and it's Timo Bernhard's helmet. Odd. http://www.endurance-info.com/fr/por...acing-a-monza/ |

Picture also shows a crude DSLR rig on the front end which is most likely in filming mode.
