The idea that we were promoting a path to international glory for our drivers by adopting International formulas was well intentioned but a huge failure. I guess I'm influenced by memories going back to pre Cooper days and then the Tasman series but I still think the F5000s gave us the best spectator racing experience ever seen at a local level. And it provided good TV ratings in an reasonable timeslot which F1 didn't achieve for quite a few years. |

Again I would repeat that no domestic series would be spectator friendly enough to compete with Prost,Senna,Rosberg and Mansell. |

Maybe it is not too late for Holden to get on board, ditch the Coyote for a LS3 or Ecotec V6 Turbo and have us Super Formula Holden? In all seriousness, maybe it is a good branding chance for Nissan (whether they choose V8 or V6 twin turbo), and might be more worthwhile than their middling V8 Supercar results...? Hmm, looks like the Nissan GTR crate engines run $35k USD which is quite a lot steeper than the $10k USD for the Coyote. Regarding, running a modern downsized turbo would be better for road relevance and general relevance (Indycar & F1 run V6 turbos, and F2 will switch to that format too) and would have to be something Super5000 looks into, surely? F5000 back in the day was big engine, slick tyres, bugger all aeros with plently of slipping and sliding.
It looks like the new series will be just another Formula Bland with aero cars that drive around on rails and can't pass. |

So a series that has already got Queensland government cash to fund two street races, has their major permanent circuit in the state currently seeking state government cash, thinks that right now is a pertinent time to ask for cash to fund a series that has sold the grand total of one car, doesn't have a calendar or even an actual decision on what car the category will run? Sheesh.

Besides Japan's Super Formula is very high downforce, massive diffuser (creating cars that are fast and exciting to watch, challenging to drive) *and* they can pass just fine! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DW5-zrSvlY -- plenty of close racing and passing! Anyway, downforce makes racing cars fast. Essentially free grip in exchange for a penalty in drag on the straights, that is easily overcome by a faster cornering speeds to give a faster overall laptime. I don't understand why people are against downforce on racing cars -- provided there isn't outrageous development, the costs of adding downforce are minimal (just a few bits of honeycomb and carbon fibre, that's all, or even aluminium, just as good)? It doesn't cost much at all for the amateurs who have put huge wings and diffuser on their Formula Libre hillclimb cars, like below, for example. A few bits of aluminum or some in-kind carbon supplies, and plenty of spare tinkering time. The costs of their downforce add-ons is really minimal in the scheme of amateur motor racing (yes, of course, you couldn't have such liberal regulations in a professional series). Both the FT5000 and the S5000 are making the trip to Pukekohe this weekend with a certain Mr Pukekohe apparently scheduled to cut some laps in the FT5000. also look for an NZ F5000 legend to drive one or both of the cars at some stage over the weekend. the FT5000 certainly looks the goods with the new bodywork and lets hope the entire FT5000 package is adopted as the definitive article soon so planning can proceed towards a Series of some sort.

I prefer it even more now. It looks better, I think it goes better, and it definitely SOUNDS better than the Super5000 car. |

It seems to handle 100x better than the Super5000, which seems to be a right handful by comparison. |

Anyone in Melbourne over Nov 10-12 can of course see the original real F5000's at Historic Sandown.

How many F5000s will be at Sandown ? I believe Pukekohe this weekend is a round of their Series and Phillip Island in March also is.

I wonder if they realise that the S5000 project is dead.

Saw the Super5000 car at the Motorsport festival. Sounded nice, but it was an appropriate place for them to show it given there is a focus on historics. It looks like someone has done a poor copy of a 70's Lola T332.
The FT5000 wasn't there but from the pictures I've seen at least it looks a little bit modern. If this thing ever gets off the ground I hope they use the FT5000 |
