I'm keeping the heater in my 924, Snett in April can be pretty miserable.....found out today it wasn't just the cold stopping it running, fuel pump relay failed. Must have happened before cos PO had removed the black plastic cover from the relay. So natch as soon as the weather got cold and damp it failed again. Surpriiiiiiise! Roll cage due to arrive tomoz. Excitement unbounded in the MM household. Well, my side of the house anyway! |

What- no a/c ? Ditch the fuel pump relay if you can find a way to do it without upsetting something else! btw I found on design911 website they have pdf exploded parts diagrams that are very useful for identifying stuff. Al, I was looking at one of those little fan heaters and may still get one. 924 screen is very steeply raked so thinking the old smiths type may 'fit' better if you know what I mean. The blower type could I guess go below dash if can find room. |

Yes you have, first time you raced my car you didn't notice I'd forgotten to connect up the brake lights
Mike - bolt in on the basis that when I break the rest of it I'll get my money back on the cage. Dump the relay? Just bridge across between the live and the feed terminals? I managed to source a relay on the forum at Porsche 924 Owners Club, twelve quid well spent, if I tried to do something clever like that I'd be sure to **** it up. Better spend a little now than have to get an auto electrician in Tnx for heads up on the pdfs, they look useful. Car's a bit more complex than an old A-Series |

Working on the car definitely takes you out of comfort zone if you are used to old brit stuff! I mean, rear mounted gearbox- what's that all about? And that darn engine all on the 'huh'- can't even see the alternator when all in place so it had better be reliable! Iain, are you after a cable clutch RS2000 bellhousing? If no joy I will ask around here. |

It will be cable unless an aftermarket one. There is no mount for slave cylinder on side. For rallying when bias pedal box used some people change to hydraulic clutch- more reliable

Or you could use an integral throw out bearing as fitted to Clarksons Mk 1 on the Italian Job DVD, the one that gave all the trouble! Actually it only gave trouble as they never put an appropiate stop on the clutch pedal to stop it popping out which is both essential and very basic and I was amazed how they overlooked it and nearly blew a very expensive day for the BBC! It was only our lads in particular Ken Clark's son Tim (and mine as I have a similar unit) suggestions and help that put them on the right track and saved the day. I use a McCloud unit but I understand a lot of the lads use one from a Saab saloon which is cheaper and works well.

Thanks for the tips Mike, learned more in your posts than the whole of the Haynes Manual. Mind you it turns out I bought an American version on flea bay, full of "fenders" and "turn signals", truly two countries divided by a single language.
Al, make sure you bring the DVD to the Ace, they'll surely be happy to play it |

Jeremy replies looking down on me from about 6ft 2" 'Well it ain't worked so far!'

More to do with the amount of TV I watch nowadays than the programme! Yes, I used to rate it highly. Now am usually to be found reading up on Bosch fuel injection, the functioning of 924 electronic ignition or ordering bits.......
