previously, to watch it live , we were using $20+ worth of data for the streaming, races only.
with some calendar months having 2-3 race weekends, it is far cheaper to re-subscibe to Sky Sport.

by the end of this year, ALL channels with be digital, so some costs would needed to be added for free to veiw channels, even if only for Freeview decoder.

not a biggie, i reckon and only has one negative effect, the subscription fee.
positives are LIVE, with very few ads,
will now watch F1 and WRC again,
no wannabee presnter with barrows to push,
did i mention LIVE,
it may just help pave the way for the deicated motorsport channel that has reputedly been hiding by the wayside

bring it, can't wait.

Wow, great news for us fans.

Having it like this means that it will be very similar to watching an F1 event, i.e. something on each day over the race weekend.

Cant' wait

It's not great news for the fans who don't have SKY. I thought the service delivered by TV3 was excellent and I'm saddened that I'll no longer be able to cheer on our superbly talented athletes.
It's a great shame that sport, the dominion of working class people everywhere, has universally sold it's soul to the corporate greed.

Sky coverage of F1 is great in my opinion. It's just a feed with the radio commentary over it, but we get the practice sessions and qually as well as the race. Sky is where most things sporting will end up. Wonder if Bathurst might be a pay per view ;-) Gotta be better than an SBW farce.

Bruce, money talks... look at the state of circuit racing in NZ and now NZRC with their new fangled hybrid maxi money pits.

been a long time since wage earners could enter $40 hillclimbs and a 150km stage rally for $200. sign of the times

You are lucky to have a Sunday motorsport show.Very lucky.
TV 1 did an awesome job didn`t they? For quite some time too! As a pauper who can`t justify sky, let alone have time to watch any more TV I am bitterly dissappointed at this happening.

V 8 Supercars are now well and truly off my radar.

Farce is probably an understatement and it's sad that such a large part of the sport of boxing seens to be affected. Converting that SBW v Botha bout to V8 racing, can you imagine if they stopped Bathurst after 130 laps just because a Ford was leading and starting to smoke.

I seem to remember very clearly growing up in the UK when you'd get some form of motorsport on the Saturday afternoon "Grandstand", interspersed between horse racing, and a several other sports. You'd see 4 or five runs at a hillclimb, or three or 4 doing a motorkhana or a 10 lap race at Oulton park or Brands Hatch, or maybe 10 laps of the Goodwood TT, or two runs at a point to point (brilliant!) then a return to the studio for one of the other sports. back again maybe 45 mins or an hour later for another snippet. However, you'd be lucky to get any form of motorsport at all for at least 26 Saturdays of the year.

Getting a couple of hours of motorsport 48 weekends a year - minimum, on free to air, is luxury indeed, just as attendances overall are falling. There is no free motorsport though. It all has to be paid for by someone, as the stations do not generally cover it themselves.

I didn't say I didn't understand it, I said it was a great shame ... which it is.
The purpose of sport is not always about participation but also about the enjoyment of spectating and the uplifting experiences of worshipping heroes and watching them win.
Much has been written about the social, and economic, impact of sporting spectacles and the witnessing of success.
Sport demands significant resource from the taxpayer, central & regional government, and the community at large, and so has a responsibility to enable the enjoyment for as many of the population as would care to partake.
It would be interesting to crunch the numbers and to witness V8SC explaining to their and their competitors' sponsors how their viewership numbers in New Zealand will just have plummeted enormously.

You need to get another ISP buddy, my kids are on Youtube about 5 hours a day and I streamed the Bathurst 12 hour live ALL DAY and was still 10GB below my 40GB monthly allowance. I pay $75 a month for the broadband (unlimited upload and download speed) and it includes my phone line as well.

I will find an internet stream to watch the Supercars, it is still way better than having to fork out for the Evil Sky TV, who I rate about as highly as SkyCity Casino. Exorbitant monthly fees and almost as many ads as you get on TV1, not to mention the 35 channels of complete rubbish that they insist you have in order to get 5 sporting channels...

The internet will be the death of commercial TV as we know it within 10 years, mark my words...

But luckily that will mean more space for community broadcasters like CTV and ATV...

Speedway has live straeming pay per view on the internet for some events.
I paid $40 to watch the Superstock Teams Champs from Palmy.
It was great value.
Live,ad free pay per view Bathurst could be better than peasant TV.

Doesn't most of the coverage seen on the Internet get produced (and paid for) by someone else, like a TV channel or the sport itself? If that's not happening, then there'll be nothing to go on the net.

Rather than independent circulation through the net, I think you'll see mainstream broadcasters making more of their products available on line, under their own banner. Look at the expansion of TVNZ on demand and i-Sky, and just this week a new service for i-phone and i-pad users.

I was not happy to see the SC at that time of the race Joe. Shane did a very good job to make that gap again . A coming of age race for Shane today I think. Hope he's not that good again this coming weekend .
