So, uhh, let's pretend the Michigan "race" never happened shall we? Mother Nature sure can be a pain in the arse sometimes.

Happy Kurt Busch won it, although I would've been even happier if Kyle Larson had managed to steal it.

Next up Sonoma, can't wait

This may loosen up the rear end a good bit so the dirt trackers
should love it. Cruise controllers will hate it. We'll see.

Anyhow, hats off to NASCAR for trying. Should be an interesting
KY race. It follows Daytona.
I agree. Had hoped that they would do away with the splitter as well, but they seem to want to have that thing on the car, regardless of what tohe do! Oh well, guess we'll see what happens.

Yeah, rain made for a long day and I don't like when races are ended by rain, before the advertised distance. But I guess there isn't anything that can be done. Unlike most here, I'll skip the next race. I do not like road-racing.

I would give it till Aug or Sept. Who knows, Kurt Busch could
pick up a primary and Haas goes on the #10.

I am waiting for GoDaddy to announce as the F1 primary
for Haas. Just a guess.

I don't see GoDaddy doing that. From what they said, they are getting out of racing altogether. They are retaining Danica to do advertisements for them, but no sponsorship. They are talking about money, they won't go there because that will cost them CONSIDERABILY more money.

She will be going with SHR. I do agree that there won't be a sponsorship announcement for her until the Aug, Sep time frame!

I heard or maybe read that GoDaddy is looking to market and advertise to a more global market . NASCAR they feel is mainly a USA audience.
With their going public last year they probably raised a ton of money,
If the GoDaddy "racing guy" is still with the company, he/she may pull
the F1 trigger. No doubt F1 goes to a lot of rich countries that GoDaddy
would like to be a part of. Just a hunch and could be completely wrong.

I can't remember his name, but I believe the "racing guy" that you are referring to left the company a couple of years ago. That was the time that the "reorganization" took place and there was talk then about whether or not they would stay in racing. The guy that took over was not a "racing friendly" from what was said at the time. There was a question as to whether Patrick's sponsorship would be renewed during that time. I believe she still had two, maybe three years on that sponsorship at that time. This was the last year of that contract, so I guess that talk was true. I am relying on memory and may be completely wrong, age takes a toll on memory. But, that is what I remember hearing.

80% of the time, if the racing guy leaves , so does the sponsorship.
That will do in my F1 theory.

Lets face it, it takes stupid money to throw at a racing program. Those
companies with that kinda cash laying around are fewer and fewer these days.

Again, I could be wrong, but I believe we are think about the same guy. Man, you NAILED it with that last statement, unfortunately. Companies like that are becoming a very rare species!

This is off topic but I just read the stock car forum description:

Quote:
Stock car racing is predominantly an oval based formula, and incorporates series like the NASCAR Nextel Cup & Busch Grand National in the States, CASCAR in Canada, SASCAR in South Africa and SCSA in Europe.
This needs updating.

I don't know that the description needs to be updated. Stock car racing is predominately oval based, so that is accurate. You are right about the different series though. Example, If I am not mistaken, CASCAR is now the Canadian Tire Series - NASCAR's Canadian series. It doesn't mention anything about NASCAR's Euro Series or the Mexican Series. Yes, series need to be updated.

I am over Sonoma, but still get some enjoyment watching stockcars bound off the curbs, three wheelin' through the corners and sliding right and left through the esses.

Yeah I agree. Danica had some good times in practice . Maybe
we will see a few old grudges evened up this weekend. Can Gordon
grab that first win?

Sonoma is almost old school racing at this stage.

Also last weekend for Fox. NBC takes over for Daytona.

That's right, this is FOX's last broadcast of Sprint Cup racing, for the season. Will be interesting to see how NBC handles the broadcasts. They seem to have assembled a good group of broadcasters, pit reporters, etc. But NBC's last venture into broadcasting NASCAR left a whole LOT to be desired! Time will tell if they will do a better job, this time. Here is hoping for the best.

Way to go Dinger - on pole! Gordon starting 5th
and since he basically owns most of the records at
Sonoma , I am sticking with him as my pick to win.

With 28 laps to go, this may take a while.
A few more cautions to go. Duchess hunting down a top 10

I am pulling for a new race winner for the chase.

Glad Kyle won & not JJ - reckon Ambrose would have blitzed that lot this year

Kyle still has a bit of work to do to get in the top 30 points for "chase qualification" - he is currently 38th in points & 138 points behind 30th place - 10 races remain before the chase starts...
