I had two 406 Estates and a 405. The last '6 I killed through running it on Mini MM's 16:1 2-stroke. I've also liked Citroen: two BX and a Volcane ZX. Way back I was an early adopter of diesel with another Pug, a 305. None of them let me down in quite such a bad way as the "quality" Swedish brands - Saab and Volvo. Both had the brake lights stick on, we never did solve the problem with the Saab and I scrapped it. I was actually disappointed as I liked the car but all the peripheries started to fail. Vauxhall I suppose, it was only a Vectra with a body kit.

I've still got a 1991 205 Junior sitting outside. No rust of course, only 3 owners & 139,000km Just needs money spent on new tyres, brakes & a couple of lights, oh and a new battery, to get a CT.

Rea was on TV last night as a small part of the “Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone fishing” show (don’t ask, and no I don’t do fishing) and he looked bloody ill. ISTR he may be in remission from cancer?

This all started the other morning when much to my amazement the brake lights were on even before I got in to start it and the battery was almost flat. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the central locking and immobilizer as that had started to play up of late and I have been locking it with the key. I have had this for about 15/16 years and up until now has been very reliable and economic always returning over 50 mpg, I bought it off a customer of mine with a rod through the block after it had revved it's nuts off running on it's own oil when then turbo s**t itself. |

Some cars have the brake light circuit linked through the ECU & can show a management fault if the brake lights are not working . Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes , or a reset code for the ECU if you know what it is . |

Normally I find with customers cars with this sort of problem is that somebody has been fitting something on their car and wiring it up after looking at all the "experts" on the internet However as I said I am the second owner and it's completely standard. I have seen all sorts of things in my job over the years including an estate car that was AA relayed into my workshop with major electrical issues. I noticed that a new child seat that had been fitted by the owner had a rear belt fitted to the floor behind the rear passenger department. He had actually got his "Black n Decker" and drilled a 5/16 hole through the double floor and put a 6inch bolt through both and tightened it up. He had also drilled through the rear wiring loom that was between them !!!!! Why it didn't go up in flames I'll never know. Happy Christmas |

Yes I have had the carpets up with no sign of water ingress as I have had the same problem on a customers 406 that sodded the immobilizer system up. The very best place to fit an ECU is under the carpets of course like the Audi/VW range have a habit of doing
