Just to follow up on this old post...sorry only just joined 10 tenths! Haven't read all the posts following on from this but.. Dick Ward's Arbath is running again in historics in original (or close to) livery. The car originally ran the Abarth engine in the early 70s at Wanneroo, before being converted to Corolla by John Hagarty in 1978. Later, Kim Ledger fitted the rotary engine. It was virtually written off in 1984 just when Ward was debuting his first RX7, however after 20 years it has now been restored and is being raced again. The car was always housed at Go Gear during this time, never at Ledgers. The Ford 6cyl engined Anglia was driven in the mid 70s by Bruce Peacock. The car was white and blue number 85. It was later sold to Jow Riccardo who campaigned it in the late 70s. History of the car beyond that is unknown. The V8 Cortina was driven by Glen Nichol. He was a good friend of Rod Housego who was racing Formula cars at the time, having previously raced a Series Production Charger. The Cortina races in 1975 and appeared only a few times with Nicol driving it. Glasson ran a white and blue Rambler V8 Engined Ford Escort in the mid 1970s. This car was written off in a multi car accident and was then replaced by a yellow Ford Capri. Glasson still runs a V8 Toyota Supra at Wanneroo and along with Gordon Mitchell is the only driver still racing (albeit only occasionally!) from the Caversham days. I am pretty sure Brian Smith's Charger was the ex Diffen car. It was eventually sold to Craig Marsland who ran it for a time. Marsland also owned the ex McCormack/Edmonson Charger but did not run it extensively. Paul Palazzo (and Paul Kelly) ran an XR Falcon in the early to mid 70s, then built the XC Falcon. They had retired the car by the early 80s. Gordon Mitchell ran his V8 Morris Marina in Go Gear colours for a time in the mid 70s. Many cars carried Go Gear sponsorship during this era, including John Hurney's ex Seldon Welsor Clubman and the Jones EH Holden. I sort of remember the XD with the space frame chassis, but can't remember who ran it. Sorry! Hope this helps! |

Hi Jewby.
Nice to see this thread revived after one year - and a month. I'm still here and I'm sure most of the others are too. I promise not to correct any spelling or grammatical errors. |

Jim Smith?

I think the story is that Jim "encouraged" BLMC to bring the cars out to let him race them...then he picked them up for a pittance. Could that Marina have passed to Gordon or did he build the thing himself?? Last edited by 275 GTB-4; 2 Oct 2005 at 01:16. Reason: typo |

Earlier in the thread someone mentioned the ex Foley GTA Alfa Romeo. This car was driven by Gordon Stephenson in 1973, before Max Fletcher drove the car. It had the original ex Foley V8 engine until 1980 when Mitchell's turbo Rover V8 was transplanted from his Marina into the Alfa. The car remained in this configuration until 1984 when it was moderately damaged in practice accident and never raced in WA again. The car is currently being restored in the eastern states. Your mention of 'Rover the Wonder Camel' prompted me to search though some of my old pictures! I have a wonderful picture of Peter Brock leaning into the engine bay of this car to check it out taken on the Saturday of the 1973 ATCC round at Wanneroo. This car looked awesome. It is a pity it never really went as well as it looked! |

Homewood Escort
The Bob Homewood Escort was built and is still owned By Bob Homewood in Pukekohe,it has /was never driven by any one else, and is as it is shown in the photo, the car you are talking about must have been another car
The engine fitted in this car in the photo ,was a 1850 cc 416b headed Lotus twin Cam,with Lucas Fuel injection ,which devolped just over 200 bhp on the Dyno, car uses a four speed ford based gearbox which has been changed to use Hewland gears to change the ratios in this form it beat both the Alfetta Bay Park, and the Addis Charger at Pukekohe to win on both ocassions,I have videos to prove it ,also it was I believe the first car of any class to go under 40 seconds at Taupo in those days,Like most people ,finances dictated the amount of racing it did ,it was always run on a vary limited budget The car now boasts a 2.1 litre fuel injected Alloy BDA ,285 bhp @9000,it is nearly ready to go again and it is possible that if the chance arises it will run again in some Historic meetings or displays. The car only ever raced twice in this form(BDA),it did practice for a Bay Park meeting ,where it returned a quicker time than the Wills RX8 Chev which was the fastest car next day and was sidelined race day with a spark box failure ,a replacement unit having to come from the Uk and being fitted in the following weeks,it then ran at the last meeting on the Club short Circuit at Pukekohe returning a Lap time of 30.4 secs which once again to my knowledge is the quickest any one has ever gone there, Bob Homewood |

I find it strange that in all these pages mainly concentrated on Sports Sedans discussion there is NO mention of K and A Engineering. They designed and built THE fastest Sports Sedans in the country. Including the current fastest...the Ricciardello Alfa.

A School mate of mine got one of these things (a TC - was that twin-carb), and I'm going back to the days when they were just released, and as soon as I saw the thing had 'lever shocks' the same as my Morris Major II, (1962 model), that was it. The Marina was a 'puss pile' built by accountants. |

For the record, the Moffat Monza was DeKon 1005, 1001 was badly damaged at it's first race and was rebuilt and was then raced in Canada! This quote from Brad Carter... i just found out my father mo carter owned dekon #1001. he ran the car for maybe half a season and then sold it. he never told me too much as i was young at the time, but he did tell me that the monza was a scary fast car. i guess the original owner wrecked it, my dad crashed in it, not too bad, and the subsequent owner died in it. that's about all i know There is still one genuine IMSA Monza in Australia as well as the ex-Red Dawson/Roberts-Briggs/Griffen/Barnes example! |

"The Good O'l Days"
Yep Twas the day bfore the big win and ............
The story never ends. So went the Can-Am cars. I am looking for information about Frank Gardner's last ride as well as Allen Crice with the incredible Corvair. Not really a Sedan Dan but waht a ride to end all rides. I am in Canada gus and I need information about this car as I am in the prosess of building ( my idea ) of that particulare car. Tube frame, mid engine, 500-600 RWHP. 8 stacke manifold, 18" X 13" Die rr erims for starts. If any one can get one of these guys to contact me about this car with any detaisl at all or photos, knows a mechanic that worked on it, knows where this car is??? I really am going round the bend as I am assuming a lot. If any one has an old rule book consering this car's putinate clasification or better yet why this car got in to sedan racing the way it was .... HMMMMMM Lets start from the begining .... yes there was a corvair body involved but WAIT A MINUTE THERE... a F 5000 under it Turns my crank. I had started building mine begfore I discovered this Auzy built racer/street sedan .... you guys are one wonderful bunch ofimmaginary builder fairies or somthing, God bless you all and especially for getting this Corvair into the race. John Haney, practicing Auzy |
