that is a big field now, let us hope it runs better than some of the old support fields, could take ages to clear up if the carnage of those races is repeated

Rather than a great view of the new BMW safety cars...
As an aside, I wonder if it would make more sense for the LM Cup to run LMP3 and GT4. It would solve the problem of GT3 cars tripping over LMP3s, and it could serve as a better entry point for newbies. Anyway, wrong thread. |

ByKolles driver change
From Autosport.com:
"Briton James Rossiter has stepped down from the ByKolles privateer LMP1 squad for next month's Le Mans 24 Hours in order to undertake a Super GT test with Toyota. The Japanese manufacturer is understood to have insisted on Rossiter's presence at a two-day test at the Sugo circuit over the Le Mans weekend on June 17/18. It appears that the 33-year-old, who won the Super GT round at Autopolis earlier this month with the TOM'S team, had originally been given clearance by Toyota to race at Le Mans for the first time since 2013. Rossiter revealed last month that a desire to go back to Le Mans for a third time was behind his participation in the opening two rounds of the World Endurance Championship aboard the ByKolles ENSO CLM-NISMO P1/01. Toyota-contracted drivers Kazuki Nakajima, Yuji Kunimoto and Ryo Hirakawa, who all race the Japanese manufacturer's Lexus SC GT500 cars in Super GT, will miss the Sugo test to compete in French enduro. Neither Rossiter nor ByKolles team boss Colin Kolles were available for comment. It is expected that former Audi LMP1 driver Marco Bonanomi will take Rossiter's place alongside Oliver Webb and Dominik Kraihamer. The Italian, who finished third in the 24 Hours in 2012, tested for the German-based team at Spa last week and is likely to be confirmed ahead of this weekend's official pre-race test at Le Mans." |

Such a shame for Rossiter, especially when Toyota is letting its other Super GT stars race at Le Mans.
Glad Al Qubaisi is returning once again, he's a very good gentleman driver. He's got to dream of racing there with his daughter at some point in the next few years, that'd be great to see. She's 17yo and racing in F4 this year, so could be a few more years yet. |

I'm sure for another entry he'd have dug his heels in harder to stay in the race. Would love to see him in a good P2 setup so he can prove himself. |

A pity for Rossiter. Could Toyota's decision be anything to do with the CLM being NISMO-powered?

I'd like to refute that (and the Autosport article could be leading) but it's notable that pulling a driver out of Le Mans, even if it's for a highly-regarded domestic series, isn't typical behaviour.
However, if Rossiter sees this as a way up the TS050 pecking order (Lapierre & Sarrazin won't be staying for much longer) then it may pay off in a couple of years. |
