As for HPD bodywork, I wouldn't say the ARX-04B failure would mean they couldn't succeed in '17. The IMSA P2 bodykits are just styling cues, not to improve performance. I almost feel more confident of having Honda than Ford in IMSA P class in '17 as Ford next year there may be no Ford-powered team in the P class. |

With Riley/Multimatic selected as one of the 'holy ones' I would still expect Ford to be involved with a prototype effort again come 2017 (or perhaps 2018) once the GTE effort is truly established.

I wonder if any manufacturer will contact a riley or dallara to add brand specific bodywork to their 'dp-p2'? I bet Bentley does at the least some aspects (headlights and nose is what I expect).

F3. Yes, F3. Contrary to popular belief, (true) F3 isn't and has never been a spec category. However, over the years, Dallara has built such a strong pseudo-monopoly in the category that hardly anyone ever attempts to challenge their hegemony. From time to time someone does, but they quickly realize it's an unprofitable venture and promptly pull out.

Which I assume will be Dallara's objective in P2
![]() It's not like they will anyway. Not under the current rule set. Probably not under the current ACO leadership either (fool me once...). |

It sounds like they are considering a future in IMSA with a prototype package. I guess they could fit their current P2 bodywork plus an HPD engine on a Dallara and have a very similar package to what they wanted to run anyways.

I guess it's something to go on, they could even dub it "Honda P2" or whatever, but the death of actual HPD engineering department sure is upon us.
Not so long ago they still circulated on offering the 04 LMP1 *if someone just came along*, now even that seems to be killed off even if someone magically did want the chassis. At least judging by some of these new comments |

Well, it's been almost a ten decade journey in sportscars with many good memories bot under Acura and HPD titles, but every era has to stop eventually...
![]() The external bodywork + engine deals for one market place with nothing else going on would/will be like hanging to life support machine, not quite gone but not really with us either? |

You should know that HPD does a whole lot more than just the P2 cars and Indycar.....in the grand scheme of things, HPD's engineering department would exist with our without these programs. Moving on to new programs. IF you think HPD will be shuttered down, that would be wrong.

So you mean the bespoke prototypes construction for HPD by Wirth Engineering. They still produce engines for other Sportscar efforts, Micheal Shank Racing (Ligier/HPD), Extreme Speed Motorsport (Ligier/HPD) and one of Oak's Ligiers are running HPD power.

It's getting to a state of being not only bleak, but plain terrible.
They wanted ARX-04 somehow still back on track for 2016, but no-one is going for it, incl the rumored/considered PR1 whom just continue to stick with LMPC. The chassis is dead property unless HPD hires a team to run it themselves, which they won't. Oak has pulled out of HPD engine deals. And now ESM, partnering fully with Oak, is saying that they haven't decided whether to stick with HPD engine for next year or to just bring up Nissan. So just by considering it they are basically admitting their relationship with HPD is pretty hollow right now. |

Hpd are almost about hopeless. At least in the sportscar scene. If Indy proves difficult again, I dont know if they have much credibility left. Theyll need a rethink and reboot.

They really just need a clean sheet NSX GTE. Exit the the prototype game for which they are not known in the public. Atleast with an NSX, Acura can generate good publicity.

Honda is funneling all of their money/resources at the F1 project currently. HPD will lease car/engines/engineering to a team with money, but, it's not going to be cheap at all. That's what PR1 ran into... too much moola.

With Porsche getting the waiver for the 2017 911 RSR GTE for being mid-engine,that will most likely lead to a waiver for Honda's NSX Hybrid GTE too.
