They might have been unsure what flag to use if they had googled the NZ flag debate.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand_flag_debate I like the Kyle Lockwood design - a modern design. I'm surprised the new supercars design did not infringe an NZ earlier design. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tino_rangatiratanga http://www.v8supercars.com.au/news/c...rcars-strategy |

Yep, great news. Well done Mr Stanaway.
Has there ever been more than 1 kiwi in the history of gp2? Mitch must be a title contender this year for sure. That guy needs to be in F1 but i fear he doesn't have the standard trillion dollars to buy a seat. Its silly how money makes more of a difference than talent alone.... |

[QUOTE=NZSTfan;3527286]Yep, great news. Well done Mr Stanaway.
Has there ever been more than 1 kiwi in the history of gp2? Only Mitch and Brendon Hartley have raced GP2, before that only Mike Thackwell raced F3000 (Nearly won in 85) and before that Mike won the last proper F2 Title in 1984. Not many Kiwis have raced in FIA F2, Graeme Lawrence (1968) Howden Ganley, Chris Amon ,Denny Hulme, Bruce McLaren in 67, Bert Hawthorne in 72 ( Killed in Hockenheim), John Nicholson (1976) |

Thanks for the info Puke....thats very interesting
Funnily enough , I found out that Graham Lawrence was actually one of our first neighbours when we first came to NZ in 1988. His formula Pacific was the first race car I'd ever seen in the flesh. It was at a rural property at the north end of Hamilton. |

Welcome to motorsport. I used to believe the claim Ecclestone made many years ago (I think it was him anyway), that F1 had the worlds best drivers. I now know that is a load of rubbish; more likely the worlds "most privileged" drivers.

also had Chris van der Drift an Earl Bamber doing GP2 Asia at the same time in 2009 if i recall.
Earl even ended up on the podium at the Chinese GP support race. Good times for NZ motorsport at the top of the game at the moment, which is good to see. Earl and Brendon in LMP1, which you could argue is almost more up there than F1 in terms of technology, and the driver quality (not a class full of Max Chiltons, but paid drivers from manufacturers). Richie and Mitch in GP2. Dont forget Scott Dixon in Indy Cars as well, Hayden Paddon in WRC. 6 drivers in top couple of tiers of the car part of world motorsport. |

Tough weekend for Mitch Currently 8th in the standings, with Richie in 14th.
He looked good in Race 1, but then his tyres konked out. R2 and he got a puncture and finished 17th...I think. Do you guys like the new DRS in GP2, or do you think its pointless? Funny thing is, as it stands right now, I see GP2 as 'the pinnacle of motorsport', not F1. F1 is way too political and the cars, although fast, are boring, and quite ugly. But its good to see another team is giving the Mercs a run for their money. Just a pity its Vettel.... |

Mitch drove extraordinarily well on debut. Starting to look like the real deal.
Brendon mostly drove well, other than trying to wipe out the marshals by using their safety gap to re-enter the circuit. |

Amongst horrible accidents and blistering high speeds, Mr Dixon has got pole for the great American race.
Can he get another Indy crown? |
