Brownj should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I'm a huge ALMS fan, and have been quite skeptical of the merger, but I will say this: when was the last time ALMS announced a 5-year anything? The stability of having a 5-year TV contract and 5-year title sponsor can only help the new series and existing/potential entrants. Good for them.

Why do you think Tudor would be "the last choce to partner in promotions"? They have Rolex money them.

We'll have to wait and see before ****ing all over it.
Having a sponsor is good. This should be a good relationship for Tudor. Maintaining the relationship with Rolex is good. The money, whatever it is, is a positive.

The point being, the Tudor brand has been absent in the market for a decade, and isn't particularly well known. It is an obscure name that adds little, to nothing to the marketing of USCC. In fact, it might be a bit of a negative.

Ideally, a promotional partner adds to the value of your franchise as well, and when it is obscure and mostly unknown, how does it do that initially? For example, if this was the Coke, or Budweiser, or Red Bull USCC, it would further lend credibility to the series. Now we've got an unknown brand, matched with an unknown brand...

Hopefully Tudor markets the heck out of themselves and the series though...

2nd. Seems like they could both use it, unlike Patron. Not sure where ole Scotty A was coming from with his recent comments about the "presenting" sponsor, Patron is a household name. Even though Ed Brown and Scott Sharp have skin in the game, I'm sure they saw no benefit in using the ALMS to market Patron. What was the point? Patron has a much larger reach than the ALMS ever dreamed of having.

Tudor. USCC. Both have a fresh start to impress us.

- Hey, look, it's a race sponsored by Budweiser!
- Wow, it must be the best! Let's watch it.

- Hey, look, it's a race sponsored by Tudor!
- Huh? What brand is that? Switch the channel.

I don't think so. People watch races. If cars are cool, if races are cool, if drivers are cool, they will watch. The point of a sponsor is to invest in marketing, not to increase credibility.

Ok, Northern Light wasn't the best title sponsor. But Tudor are expensive watches, not an obscure search engine.

It is called Marketing and credibility... Some people understand it, and some don't. The point of a sponsor is to both invest in marketing AND increase credibility. That is of course why the sponsor is involved, to increase their credibility, but it is a two way street. Big well known names give a perception of importance when they are involved...

United SportsCar Championship.

No press conference to announce this land mark change though.

It's what you call your fledgling racing series when you got it wrong on your "one chance to get it right."

Someone realized "United SportsCar Racing" needed another letter---series, championship, league, whatever. Basically their half-million-dollar marketing budget bought them half a product---and when they realized , they were at least smart enough to change it.

Seeing as despite all their marketing only a few hundred people had ever heard of USCR anyway.

United Sports Car Championship .... unfortunately "You Ess See See" clunks off the tongue about as gracefully as "Ay Ell Em Ess."

Meanwhile, tons of stationery is headed to the dumpster, and some guy is repainting all the signs in the parking lot ....

Oh, about those regulations .... later, we are too busy redoing everything it took us nine months to do wrong.

Agreed. Marketing has always been terrible with the ALMS. Incredible cars with awesome sounds that were never adequetely marketed. NASCAR does know a thing or two about marketing as long as they dont screw up the product in the process. True we dont know TUDOR watches, maybe the rest of the world does. Maybe its a great watch, I admit I went to their website and looked around when this announcement was made. Who cares what the product is as long as money is brought in and hopefully they get a return on their investment. Could have been worse here, no title sponsor or something even more lame. I also like that they also have ties with the WEC.

Perhaps the new title sponsor weren't too be associated with something that sounds like something between "you sucker!" and "USSR" depending on who attempts to pronounce it.

I wonder if many fans already bought some merch.

The lyrics to that song are oddly appropriate in this whole scenario.

Maybe I'm remembering this incorrectly but didn't USCR come from some fan? The whole "be a part of history and pick the winning name?" What happens to that guy now?

"Yeah that fan picked a bad name after all. Despite being a fan, and therefore a winner, he is now a loser (USuCkeR) , and he and his loser acronym can take a hike."
