I was at Silverstone for the ILMC/LMS this year, the GTE/GT2 spec Vantage sounded amazing, and that's only a V8! The new GTE car is being tested today again, ahead of the launch on Friday - so we should hopefully get some decent photos/videos soon!

Interesting that they chose to stick with cross-plane crank V8 for this time (so far?) after troubles with the new engine in the first half of 2011.
I wish they'd use a downsized V12 for GTE though! If Corvette could sleeve or destroke their 7.0l V8 to 5.5l, then surely getting 12 cylinders from 5.93 down to 5.5 shouldn't be a problem, right? Or is it about the weight? |

Talking about "destroking" corvette (GM) could be able to do a thing like that because of their know how, but AMR/Prodrive isn't the best company if we talk about engine, so if they'll be able to set an engine a bit more reliable and powerfull than last year will be already a great result. |

And I'm sure I've read somewhere, quite possibly here, that the new so called LS9.R engine is heavily based on the 7-liter GT1 engine rather than the ZR1 unit. |

the ls9.R like the name tells, is based on the ls9 (both ls9 and ls7 shares small block LS basic structure) and is not the engine that is used on the corvette gte, isn't a racing engine at all. More info here

Yet another reason for AMR to stick with the V8, not a V12 unit.

Do we have any idea what's the roadmap for the Vantage road car's replacement? Maybe AMR figures that the lukewarm reception of the Vantage V12 combined with a possible(?) car replacement in the near-future mean it's not worth their while to stick the V12 into the GTE.
Not only would it cost money to adapt the V12 for the GTE, it would raise the overall price of the car if a customer wanted one for whatever reason. |

Before I forget, the 2009 GT2 engine wasn't a Katech engine at all, it was the first engine for the race program from GM themselves. |

I can't find the link to backup what I've said so we'll have to agree to disagree.
I see a Pro GTE Vantage is on the Sebring entrylist which will be interesting to see how it gets on during the race. |

I did see an AML future model plan, in something like Autocar, about 4 months back. I cannot remember ANYTHING from it, sorry. Perhaps someone could find it?
It discussed platforms, and engines, and future technology... |

The new-spec GTE Vantage V8 is competing a full 2012 WEC calendar with 1 GTE-Pro entry, and another GTE-Am entry at Le Mans - they also have another GTE-Pro reserve entry for La Sarthe. The first race the car will complete, or at least attempt to, is the Sebring 12 Hours. If you want to know more, check out Darren turner on FB/Twitter, as he was testing it the other day. |

Thanks, I know all that. Really I was just trying to steer the thread back to AMR instead of the Vette engine discussion.
