Is there any news of Ford closing the deal with the FIA or is it still in the balance until the end of the month...

I spoke to a few guys at the weekend. They hadn't heard anything and were getting rather tetchy. One described his car as "a £40k paperweight".

So discussions on going. Haven't heard any more about the Formula Renault series though. I would be surprised if nothing said at or before Silverstone... And if its not the series becoming an FIA series I would be quite surprised...

The field is likely to be 2 cars down from Rockingham. SWB Motorsport aren't entering and Dan Cammish isn't expected to take part having won the championship.

Actually Easton JTR have already replaced Cammish with a driver returning to the championship and I understand Jamun also have another former driver returning for the final two events so they will be back up to 3 cars.

If that is correct, we have no net change, and we still have a massive 12 car grid!

In truth the one series that has probably held up the best is still Protyre FR (BARC) and they have the least TV. BRDC/MSV F4 have a very slick package but there has still been quite a high turn over of drivers and there is lots of talk of subsidised deals which cannot be sustained on a long term basis. 12 car grids won't survve log term as we have already seen with Formula Renault UK & Intersteps. Tough Times! |

They said a decision by the end of the month. I would be surprised if nothing occurs at Silverstone. In fact what about news in either MN or Autosport this week.
Whilst I understand Ray and Sinter are unhappy with the decision, it could ensure there cars still race, even if it is in a Class B. Fact is without this change Formula Ford has a very limited future ... |

I notice this repetitive "TOCA didn't save FRUK" theme, and frankly I'm a bit confused. For most of the time FRUK was on the TOCA package it was healthy and competitive. It wasn't being on the TOCA package that killed it, but two very poor decisions by Renault: The first of these was abandoning the Tatuus chassis in favour of the inferior but more expensive Epsilon one, which nobody liked, at the height of the recession. The second was switching to a promoter that didn't understand the series, and did absolutely nothing to promote it. Quote:

Been on the TOCA package has helped the Ford Egoboost grid experience negative growth to 11 cars today, meanwhile Protyre F Renault has 18 cars & at Donington Park there are a similar number of BRDC F4 cars.
It is interesting that none of the top British teams at the sub-F3 level are involved in, or showing any interest in been involved in F Ford Ecoboost, whereas both BRDC F4, Protyre F Renault and FR1600 are attracting interest from many teams, including some teams moving into single seaters after developing their reputation in saloons 7/or sports cars. |

[QUOTE=sceptic;3309928]Who knows what grids would have been like if FF hadn't joined the TOCA package?
I notice this repetitive "TOCA didn't save FRUK" theme, and frankly I'm a bit confused. For most of the time FRUK was on the TOCA package it was healthy and competitive. It wasn't being on the TOCA package that killed it, but two very poor decisions by Renault: The first of these was abandoning the Tatuus chassis in favour of the inferior but more expensive Epsilon one, which nobody liked, at the height of the recession. The second was switching to a promoter that didn't understand the series, and did absolutely nothing to promote it. Which is actually the point I was making that being on the TOCA support package has very little influence; positive or negative. The obvious parallel between the demise of Formula Renault UK & British Formula Ford is that they both tried to introduce a new car with significantly increased purchase price and running costs into a depressed UK markert and both suffered as was predicted they would. ... |
