I know I am biased but the race sounded fairly exciting, both from the write ups on EERC and dailysportscar.com, and from seeing Jason's gallery. After reading the report in today's MS News you would be forgiven for thinking it was just another cr*p race...actually maybe we should keep quiet about it otherwise everyone will want to do BritCar !

In MN's defense (I can't believe I'm going to) they do have a lot of club events to write about in a finite space, I think Autosport will give a bit more. We'll have to see.

I still feel aggrieved at the scant coverage so I'll post a decent, deserving description of the race, thanks to Steve Wood and dailysportscar.com: (I have had to post in 2 halves to reduce in length)

A long gap now for Britcar, until July 24, and a Max Power-type spectacular at Brands Hatch.

There seems to be some confusion as to where the next round is-see Autosport Britcar report! I reckon its Brands on the 24th july isn't it? I see no entry for Anthony Davidson in the SuperMini from now on-is that correct??
Cheers, Baz |

I assume you mean Alistair Davidson.....good old boy - remember the Merc 190 he campaigned, and remember his epic 'Ring performance in 95 or 96? when he ran the whole 24 hours on a set of road tyres in atrocious conditions, in an M3 prodsaloon, and finished 1st in class, 6th overall.....

Were Sportzpix (the official EERC photographers) at Pembrey and Donington Park, as no galleries up on their web site yet?

Everybody does want to do Britcar, Del !
The Ford Saloon boys are gradually filtering their Focuses into the series, with a Puma expressing an interest too. The sad demise of the excellent Formula Saloons series means there are a number of eligible cars available, with Martyn Sims and Andy Clarkin already on board with us. The situation is so bouyant, you wil notice we are booking reserves for the next few races, and no doubt James will be negotiating with circuits to increase allowable grid sizes. Regarding reports, I can quite appreciate the Nationals only giving us a few column inches. They have got to appeal to everybody, and to be quite honest, would need a team of journos to accurately report a whole day's mixed racing in depth, not just the one man they usually send to clubbies. As detailed as my reports are, my big regret is that it is impossible to mention everybody. I keep an eye on the screens, watch gaps coming down, and there lie the stories. At Donington, Peter Seldon/Eugene O'Brien and Mark Smith/David Cuff did really well, but their races, from what I saw, were steady rather than eventful, so they barely got a mention. I can only see so much, and I can only get around to so many people, but I can write as much as you all want, so, if you've got a race story, find me after the race, tell me about it, and I'll put it in, as long as it's not contentious. I'm not sure if the ten-tenths management would allow me to report directly onto this forum, but I can if they are amenable. |

Steve
I'm not sure that mentioning everybody makes for a good report - it can look like a token gesture. Far better to concentrate on the stories of the race and do them well. Presumably the reports could go on the EERC site easily enough? |

Ian, you're right, of course, but I'm thinking of a tailored report for the eerc site only, where people involved would love to see their exploits reported.
It's a club thing, and I would leave it out of the versions filed to other outlets. |

Even on www.clubff1600.co.uk we're straying away from the 'mention everyone' idea - a good way to include any others could be within news stories.

Steve, I think you are doing a great job as well. I posted the report because anyone reading MSN or Autosport and reading this thread, and NOT reading the EERC site or dailysportscar.com wouldn't appreciate what a good race it was.
I was being critical of the weekly mags.... del |

Just picked up the June "Track and Race Car" from the village newsagent. Report of the Britcar Brands Hatch race, slightly abridged from my original.
Great magazine, taking the best bits of the defunct "Ingear" and "Car and Car Conversions", plus more, and doing it better. Thanks to Keith Wood (no relation)for his support of Britcar. |
