There are quite a few other late 50s and early 60s Healey drivers of note, but I think the 3 mentioned previously are the ones that spring to most people’s minds, especially when it comes to racing. Jack Sears isn't a name you would immediately associate with a 100/6 or 3000, but in the late 50s and 1960 he did a lot of rallies and races in them- even Sebring and Le Mans in ‘60. (3rd in first, retired with engine problem while 8th at LM.) He also came 2nd in the GT category in the 1959 RAC Rally- in SMO746........ |

I remember back in the 70’s and 80’s even 90’s we would all meet up for a good old natter and noggin . This was why I loved racing in NZ this year it was just like the old days . I blame Sunday shopping .

This E Type has been talked about a bit in recent classic car press. Maybe its coming up for auction. I just want to know how much the restoration (recreation?) cost..... https://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/news/...cid=spartandhp |

Agreed, Peter. It's truly a beautiful car, but I do query the significance of it being the 10th 4.2 built (is that any more significant than any other number, apart from No 1, of course?) and I'd be interested in the 'wonderful history' referred to when half of it has been spent in the undergrowth. Did it have an unusual and interesting existence before that? I'm feeling more than usually grumpy this morning!

Reading the 'blurb' on the website they appear to be calling it a restoration, but also from the website it's just using the original log book cylinder head & cam covers!

I just got my international drivers permit for my hols next week, not that I think I'll need it, and the woman in the PO tried to do me out of my trailer entitlement.

Better make sure the door seals are tight otherwise you'll sink halfway across the channel!

Where we live in the UK we are constantly getting power cuts, sometimes for a few minutes and others that just last a couple of seconds. I often complain as it sods up some of the timers and the radio alarm clock, however the last one sodded up my Samsung Smart TV as the picture refuses to come on although I have sound.
After looking on the internet it would appear that I am not alone and others have a similar problem possibly caused by a power surge even though I run all the audio/video gear through a surge protector. EDF power virtually said "nothing to do with them" and I have bought a new TV. It would appear that hardly anyone repairs TVs these days and they are just thrown, away although the "old" one was only 4 years old ! I then find that the replacement that I have got hasn't got a Scart socket so I can't just plug in my surround sound DVD player that worked perfectly well. I then buy a Scart to HDMI adapter only to find that the quality is absolute crap so it looks like it's going to cost me a small fortune to get back to having a decent set up. Progress !!!!! Grrrrrrrrr |

Maybe the photo is a bit constrained for e-publishing or perhaps my eyesight is going bit the side view sort of suggests a slightly short wheelbase. So, how much would a "unique" short wheelbase E-Type be worth? |

"Progress", as a term describing activity, is a bit like "social mobility". Without any reference to direction is can mean anything people want it to mean. Usually something meaningless. |

A 1965 4.2 Coupe is the sweet spot of the range, in my opinion. You can keep the early ‘flat floor’ Roadster or later S2 versions. In reality, I’ve no desire to own any of them, though. From the era, give me a Gordon Keeble any day.... |

Although I appreciate the glory of the genetic shape of the E-type the age related and series by series nuances have mostly passed me by unless completely obvious (in the my earlier days). It also seems that I have been completely blind to the differences as more an more generic cars shapes have developed in recent decades. Earlier today I read an article headline suggesting that he FIAT 500 was at end of life. Parking next to one this afternoon I was wondering what FIAT would use for the new shape ... but then realised what I had parked next to was a VX Adam - whatever that is. Back in the day when, as a very young lad, I was hardly able to see through the windscreen I could ID a car in the dark when it was raining at some distance by the shape and position of its lighting. Front or Back. Not any more -although to be fair lighting design is one of rather few modern day differentiators and so should still be useful but I really cannot be bothered (not even interested) to try to keep up with the latest styling tweaks. |

Easy to think the Adam and 500 are related! The former has already been discontinued, however. Not surprised it didn’t sell well with that name.....
Identifying cars in the dark by their rear lamp layout still great fun, especially since LEDs came popular. There are some rubbish ones out there, however, IMO. How they get away with the legality of some amazes me....... |

And on many cars with indicators and brake/rear lights in very close proximity (or, indeed lights surrounding indicators, or vice versa) it is very difficult to see the indicators when drivers still have their feet on the brake pedal.

I thought that was only me, and as for these million watt LED headlamps that certain drivers don't know how to dip them !

Front indicators are are as much of a problem as rears. Some VW Golfs are especially bad with lights - even daytime running lights in some cases, large and indicators buried in the middle of the headlight clusters, small. All very unnecessary in my opinion since they certainly didn't gain even styling points for the arrangements. The 'style' should have resulted in minus 3 EuroNCAP points. Or more. |

Back when we lived by our own Construction & Use Regs we could control such things; nowadays if a new vehicle satisfies the TUV or whomever the relevant authorising body is then it's OK throughout the EU so blame them... just saying.

Many of them switch off the sidelights as the indicators flash. Especially those LEDs in an arc around the front wing.
