Chief Marshal's Top Ten Tips
Some of these have already been mentioned but are worth repeating (and some people know that I've learnt many of them the hard way ).
1) Be prepared for all weathers - Silverstone is a flat old airfield on top of a hill so it's almost always colder and windier than at home but can be baking hot to, especially if you are somewhere sheltered. 2) Make sure you have plenty to drink - little and often, it's easy to get dehydrated when you are outside for long periods. 3) Whatever the weather it will be cold and damp in the night - this even happens in Florida (Daytona). The damp (or rain) will make things (like flag posts) slippery so take care . 4) Sunscreen - for sun or wind burn. 5) Sunglasses - including for the headlights at night, but do take then off when something happens so that you can see what you're doing. 6) Pocket torch - for finding stuff in your bag or when you've dropped it. 7) Breaks - do take them, go and sit down somewhere and have something proper to eat. There should be enough people around to permit this if you organise a sensible rota. 8) Take all your other bestest marshalling kit - from head to fingers to toes. And then some more stuff in case it's really wet. 9) Stop for a kip if you feel tired on the way home - a few minutes will make a big difference. Get out of the driving seat because waking up with a steering wheel in you hands can be a bit scary! 10) Enjoy yourself! - talk to people, make friends , look after each other. Everybody on post for the start and finish of the main race please. Give the drivers a thumbs up on the pace lap and a big wave at the end (but nothing too silly). BONUS TIP - watch out for those Scots! They are a friendly bunch but if you think Groundskeeper Willie (on the Simpsons) is a made up character then this weekend will change your mind. Be safe, enjoy. |

Don't forget that if there is an urgent need for anything and you can't get off post to sort it out, then get your sector chief to radio/phone it in and we'll see what we can do. (This does not include requests for chinese/indian/pizza takeaways!) Oh! and it all depends on whether I can find your post or not !!!
And to Bryan Degerlund - Alan has confirmed I'm doing Assembly so I will miss your calming presence. BUT, I will remember the fire extinguishers this year. Enjoy your good night's sleep this year. |

As Hepatic has said, down to the White Horse in the village tonight. It's the BMMC Sth Mids Clubnight, with guest speakers from the Britcar crowd, with drivers and James Tucker present. Oh yes...2 steaks for the price of 1. Starts around 8pm, but get here earlier so you can eat. See you all there, as EVERYONE is welcome.

Partly why i'm in no hurry today. Car is now packed, just need to stop off at Spa for some more beverages and i'm on my way. Probably leave in an hr or 2 after some lunch.
As for the M6, i intend to avoid what i can of it and use the A50 instead. I know that means more M1, but thats M1 without Birmingham so i'll risk it Still nice and sunny here |

It's my first year marshalling, first Britcar event, first 24hrs race, first Silverstone, so please come over and say hello if you see me in the campsite. Should be there about 5ish onwards tonight. Dark blue tent next to a silver Renault Clio Only know a couple of people going, so be nice....

Just waiting for the afternoon to finish then head straight from work. Haven't missed a day of the all the Silverstone 24hrs so far and judging by the weather forcast this is going to be a cracker.
Should be easy to spot in the campsite as I'm coming in my Marcos for what could be it's last outing before winter and of course I'll have the Britcar Marshal poster in the window. |

With any luck we'll be the ones playing cricket (badly) on the Fri evening. You're in for a great weekend, I've been looking forward to this since I left Silverstone after last year's 24hr!! |

I'm in exactly the same boat as alexhall - I've only been marshalling 3 months and this is my first event at silverstone, first 24 hour event and first Britcar event so please look after me! I'm only really known to the regular Cadwell crew.
I can't make it down there until tomorrow afternoon so I'll be arriving hopefully 4pm tomorrow and will be sleeping in the car (dark red 405 saloon). I hope I've packed enough stuff....17 litres of drink plus 2 litres of kick be enough do we think? |

Gti,
your not alone, think there s a few bods sleeping in their cars. this is also my 1st britcar 24,done silverstone a few times, but don`t worry, you`ll be looked after. won`t get many on here tonight, they`ll all be on the pop at marshal`s camping. The rest of them will be down the local, with Mr Tucker and 1 or 2 of the drivers for the bmmc meeting. |
