Going a bit off topic in terms of the actual item, albeit very much on topic in terms of what it is based on, I recently purchased a rather nice modified replica of the 1980 Spa winning Martin bros car in 1:18 scale.
I spent most of an xmas cash pressie on it as I doubt these things come up all that often! The modeller used a Norev road diecast car as a the basis and apparently was one of 5 made? There was a similar car on ebay about a year ago - the 1978 Spice winner. I can only hope that it will appreciate in value even though it will have a limited specialist appeal. I've written to the seller asking who did it and whether they would fancy further replica projects. I'll copy this into the armchair thread as well. |

Already mentioned on the Rover thread, but thought it was worth a post here- From photographer Mike Hayward's site, some Capri pics- 1979 BTCC Thruxton, and 1981 BTCC GP Supports amongst others, so quite a few of the CC and Spice cars
Searching on 'Capri' brings up some older material as well (Mk1s and prodsaloons).... http://www.mikehaywardcollection.com/search/capri ...but you can search on individual meetings... Thruxton Easter Monday F2 1977 http://www.mikehaywardcollection.com...onday-1977.htm Donington Aurora AFX meeting '79 http://www.mikehaywardcollection.com...a-afx-1979.htm Silverstone GP supports, 1979, 81 http://www.mikehaywardcollection.com...sh-gp-1979.htm http://www.mikehaywardcollection.com...sh-gp-1981.htm |

Looks like Spice and Craft following Woodman in the first 77 shot?
There might even be a BMW 530 in the mix with the Dolly's and Magnum's in one of the shots, a left front corner is just visible? The shots of Nick Whiting kerb hopping for the crowd in the ex Graham car in the '81 set are very good! |

Quick couple of bits of info have come to light.
I haven't checked back in the thread to see if it has already been mentioned/confirmed but converning a couple of cars from the 78 season that definitely weren't CC built: The Lawrie Hickman/Andy Rouse Carrier Properties car was apparently prepared by Specfab, that was Dave Lampitt's concern IIRC? Vince Woodman's car at that time was done by Ralph Broad.... I am therefore assuming that one of the reasons that Vince later took his cars to CC was possibly because of the proposed Andy Rouse/Broad tie up for 1981, which of course never quite came off. Andy running his own team as Broadspeed closed down.... |

Maybe not defo a CC car but probably of origin... another of motorsport dvd's offerings has popped up, the 1984 Norisring DPM race. A red Capri, one of 3 Capri's that I could make out, features prominently in a battle for the points. It has Auto Bieri backing which makes me think it maybe Bodo Jahn's car which we think was ex Spice? This car is LHD though so it must've been converted if it was.
There's also a white red car near the back which reminds me of one of the Australian cars that ran at Bathurst that year... |

Not CC, but Spice Capris again. Looking through pics on the Hong Kong website I found with year-by-year reports and pics of the Macau races, I found a couple of familiar-looking red Capris in 1984.
http://www.motofan.com.hk/motofan/in...5&limitstart=4 They don't seem to be involved in the main 'Guia' touring car race, but are attached to race reports of a couple of other races at the meeting (next page from the report in the above link)- an unknown 12-lapper (Sorry, the descriptions are all in Chinese!) and something called the 'ACP' The red #75 with the 'Spice' sunstrip is from the 'ACP' race, the others seem to be from the other race covered in the report. http://www.motofan.com.hk/motofan/im...b/set_34/1.jpg http://www.motofan.com.hk/motofan/im...b/set_30/2.jpg http://www.motofan.com.hk/motofan/im...b/set_36/1.jpg http://www.motofan.com.hk/motofan/im...02/set_1/1.jpg Anyone know the precise race programme for a typical Macau in the 80's? the reports on the website seem to give a pretty good overview, the F3 race, the Guia touring car race, a couple of other saloon races, historics, sportscars/supercars, and sometimes a motorcycle race seems to be the usual programme in various combinations- but what were these other two saloon races? Races for older Group 1 cars, or qualifying heats for the main touring car race? These two Capris don't appear to have taken part in that. Either way, there seem to have been a few ex-UK Capris active there... Last edited by KA; 17 Jun 2012 at 15:33. |

Interesting....
The metallic blue car in some shots looks more like a standard 2.8i, must've been re-sprayed at some point. There's at least 2 red Capri's as you rightly say KA. One actually has the GSR windshield visor, and another looks like it has had the shell oils logo on the doors covered up, which makes me think that car must've been a 1982 Tricentrol runner? |

Gents, at what point did Capri race cars get power steering?
Homologation form 5336 for the Mk1 Capri 3ltr shows amendment 20/9E 'evolution in production' revised bodyshell with 3rd door which is what we know as the Mk2 Capri valid from July 1st 1974. I had a '77 German mk2 which had power steering but I don't know anything about the Essex cars. This is important because the MSA cut-off date for category 2 rally cars is the end of '74 and it would be really helpful if I could apply this pwr steering evolution to my Mk1 car. |

Yes,its just a two bolt fitting, one either side Greg, weighs about twice that of the manual version though, plus pump etc. Al,I think it must of been, decided against that one though, thought it to be a shame to rip it apart for a race car. Left it for someone else to buy,he's now pulling it apart for a nut and bolt job. Will be a really nice car when its done,it was nice when I drove it! I found another car, more worthy of my intentions, coming along nicely now its been on a bit of a diet. Not been spending as much time on it as I had hoped, bit busier since I bought it. Any work Jim did on the car would have been right, he is a good engineer.

Terry Nichols capri
Hi thought i better bring the history of the terry nichols -stuart grahame car up to date.
I bought the shell on Ebay just before christmas in france it was sitting on stands in the corner of a farm yard as far i could gather the chap i bought it from was not the person who had dismantled it . I gather all the running gear is now in a MK1 capri. The body is in pretty good nick for a car that has raced for so many years the last scrutineering sticker 2006 By chance two workshops along from us is John Freeman mustang preparer of note who had some pictures of the car when new and after its crash in to the pit wall at Brands by Holman Blackburn and he also contacted Terry on my behalf and he came along to look at his old car and was kind enough to bring along a pile of photos of the car. My intensions are to put it back to original as far as i can but i havent pockets deep enough for a GAA so it will be getting Ford v8 to make it affordable. Look forward to any more info or pictures |

Hi and welcome!
Great find there. Presumably that shell still has flared arches then, otherwise I guess when you say put it back to original spec you would probably want it back to Gr.1 Faberge colours? |

Terry nichols cpri
The car is still as built by Gartac with arches and four link axle etc
when i said i was going to put it back to original that is as a Thunder saloon car. You would be hard pressed to put it back as a group 1 car as the shell has been too modified and if you repaneled there would be very little left of the orignal car.At the end of the day it has been in this spec for a much longer time. |

Shame though as there's not enough original G1 Capris about at the moment, most of them got hacked about when their heyday in the BSCC came to and end, sadly. Mind you, Ric Wood's done a good job with a couple of cars, one of which was possibly in a similar state to yours before being rebuilt to Gr1 Esso spec about 10 years ago. For some season that looks like it was the only Gr1 Capri present at this race? Wonder if there was a clashing BSCC round? Edit: The ex Graham, car was in the hands of Wayne Wainwright in 1981.... certainly in the early part of the season so it can't be the same car? Last edited by chunterer; 20 Nov 2012 at 10:39. |

I've been fortunate to come by a copy of the fiist 6 rounds of the 1981 Tricentrol series on dvd....
It has only taken me about 15 years to do so. It is clear that the season was perhaps the most competitive at the front in the last years of G1, as there were at least 3 competitive Capri teams, and the Rovers were starting to hit their stride, not to mention the rapid Percy RX7! There's good views of some of the rarer cars we've discussed at times such as the plain white Vince Woodman CC Capri (believed to be CC20, which was likely eventually reliveried to Equipe Esso colours for 1982) and Jonathan Buncombe in Vince's older Esso car. Also visible is Nick Whiting and Mike Kimpton's All Car Equipe cars, Chuck Nicholson's yellow car, Les Blackburn's green car, Graham Goode's bestmoor car, Dennis Leech's dayglo and black version and Wainwright's ex Graham car. Wonder if it will take me another 15 years to get hold of the second half of the season and 1982!! If I can upload it somehow I will link for everyone. |

Hi Terence, I don't think CC had any involvement with this car, it was a Ford Press Car.
Grant who is restoring it has posted on here, see page 24 'Grant Coo' Simon |
