Alex Langheck should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Maybe Button & Wurz can set up a Toyota WorldRX team......

Thanks, Dagys did a similar piece of WEC logistics last year, if my memory is accurate. He said then that ERS and battery are carried by the teams while the rest are done by WEC team.

I am not a big Porsche follower, but I really liked this video with Timo Bernhard showing you the 919

thanks for the link, nice video.

Interesting it talks about more than 4 gs in some corners.

I did some simulation studies on my blog with the old cars (so 2013 regulations) and more or less the output in terms of cornering gs was similar.

It was interesting to look to audi old onboards about this point, to see how many gs they were pulling in brakings and cornering.

Congratulations Porsche!
It's a real shame the race pace is still not where it should be, but the car is showing itself to be very quick on new tires.

Poor Toyota and Audi in 2015, PORSCHE will have a blistering pace even in race .

Porsche says that they have a of setup data from testing here. No other team ran Bahrain with their new car. In practice their long run pace was better than Audi and very close to Toyota. We'll see how their tire life plays out.

Their set up data was obtained from testing right at the start of the car's development. It was useful (and helpful), but let's not over estimate it's value. I would say it placed them in a similar position to Audi and Toyota, who had both raced on the circuit lat year.
As for the race pace: Porsche say that they have made a small mechanical change which has had a big impact on their ability to sustain their pace. Let's see. I suspect that it is still not quite where it should be, but will be better than we have seen up until the present.

You cant say the old cars setup knowledge is better than a new car running here. No way. It definitely helped out. Thats not taking anything away from their pole, its just a fact they acknowledged.

The car at the start of development was a very different beast to the one you currently see on track.
Race data is always better than testing data.

Agree, don't forget also that almost 365 days ago, porsche 919 testing in bahrain was barely able to mark 1.50... and drivers could not stand more than few laps in car because of heavy vibrations!
so as shown already since spa, in fast tracks, 919 is competitive for the overall fastest lap. Now they need to better develope the car for a better race pace.

No one knows for sure what lap times they were running in Bahrain testing. All we heard was rumors. Then we had questions about which layout they were running. They changed some things on the car, but the suspension geometry and tires are mostly the same. Thats the most important part of a setup. Next year theyll be better. Now for the race, I think it may be their best chance since Spa to win.

agree, until austin, audi was the second force in grid with porsche unable to fight against; from fuji race porsche suddenly became the toyota main rival with audi unable to fight against none of them. Anyway Bruni and Vilander should be the GT champions, or am I wrong?

I expected them to win by now TBH. Toyota was winning in it's first year with a rushed project due to Peugeot pulling out.

Honestly i think their ICE engine is letting them down. They have noticeably less downforce than Toyota but aren't any quicker in a straight. It's hard to believe that they have such inferior L/D, it has to be from the engine.

Good thing is if they play their cards right both Porsche and Toyota should have better cars than Audi, and finally we will someone else win at Le Mans. I have nothing against them, just that it would be nice to finally see a good sounding car win it.

Well spoted.

Porsche using a v4 engine was a tremendous risk, but in the end they will win. Their first year is to fix all the issues... toyota back in 2012 came with a safe bet and allot of f1 experience.

Back then the rules favored diesel engines clearly. And it was clear this year that Audi build the car only to be competitive at Le mans where the hybrid deficit won't be as big of a penalty as it is on the shorter start-stop circuits.

Very good progress by Porsche... Win or not, it is clear that they are right there with the best in terms of speed against Toyota. I don't get putting down the effort by suggesting that they should have won by now, given all the realities of 2014 (level of competition, inexperience of the team, technical complexity of the chosen concept), I think the accomplishment is clear.

Theyre very close. Today they were nearly a match for the #7 the whole race. Sarrazin had a particularly slow stint that I thought Porsche was going to capitalize on.
