It was actually a RR Meteor engine and this was used in the Merlin Rolls Royce. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-...ternative_uses

I also remember getting some headwork done and on the bench was a Merlin cylinder head, the inlet valves were the size of a dustbin lid |

Sometimes fun when you’re not in a hurry just observing stuff going on around you. In the French services this morning there was a HiLux parked on the grass under some trees. No normal parking for him! As I walked past something moved inside it- a live cockerel! Maybe better than a guard dog? (I thought that was geese...)
Some military were refuelling their trucks from Jerry cans, one ‘soldier’ with a fag hanging out of his mouth. Presume diesel- hopefully. But then on the car pumps a guy was wandering about under the shade of the canopy (it was hot), again, puffing away at a fag! Last seen being approached by a determined lady in hi-viz....... |

I called into a local filling station today and saw a police patrol car parked outside the shop, it's occupants drinking coffee. As I started to fill my car I noticed that another guy at the other end of the forecourt filling his car was smoking a cigarette. Whilst I was inside paying for my fuel I heard a commotion outside, I looked and saw the cigarette smoker running around with arm in the air on fire! By the time I got outside the police officers had put out the fire with their coffee and were arresting the man. When I asked the reason why they said "Waving a firearm!" |

Mixing the last two stories from Mike and Viva, gives someone at the gas station was cooking a live cockerel! Dont expect the french cops to put out the fire with an expensive coffee, they'd rather make pee on the guy! We dont call that a fire arm tho…

No Croft HSCC event next year:
“Due to major changes within the British National Race Meeting Calendar, which have affected both the Historic Sports Car Club (HSCC) and Croft Circuit, sadly we have not been able to find a suitable date for the Club to supply historic racing at Croft in 2020. As the HSCC support the Classic and Retro event (formerly known as the Nostalgia event) held annually in August since 2010, we have taken the decision to have a year out from running this event and all parties concerned hope that the event will return to Croft in 2021.” |

It’s a blow, but not a major one. I am sure it will return at some point in the future. At least we have plenty of historic events to keep people entertained

Haven't a clue! That was the media release. Was there some discussion a while ago about the proposed British GP date next year affecting the S'stone Classic? Maybe the calendar is too congested for next August (the traditional time for the Croft event).
Quite a blow to the circuit but when we had the first one up here we all hoped it would come back for a second year so it's had a fairly good run since then. Hopefully back in 2021. |

The British GP has moved back a week, meaning that the Classic is now the first weekend in August. Croft has a BTCC round on 15/16 August. I think there just wasn't enough time. The plan is definitely to work towards a Retro weekend in 2021.

That's good. A decent Retro event for those who find Goodwood or Silverstone geographically challenging should be a real hit.

Which government? A very good question Peter, as we appear not to have a function parliament at the moment I will take my case to the Scottish courts. I am bound to get a favourable decision there. Hoots Mon. |

Is that Verhofstadt the slow saloon driver or the look alike with same name who stared in the Brexit series on the box and sounds like a complete ******?
