Robin Rudholm's ambitions to make a full-time comeback in the STCC next year recently suffered a major setback when the sponsor he had a deal with suddenly backed out, hanging him out to dry the day before the deal that previously was in the works was set to be announced.

While obviously disappointed Rudholm will nevertheless keep working towards securing another STCC ride for 2006.

Now that just sucks.

I hope he does find the cash somewhere, he really deserves to be racing full time instead of being a tv commentator and running go karts.

New rumours and speculations:

In an interview in the Norra Skåne newspaper Stureson is saying that his team IPS Motorsport is indeed going for two Peugeot 407s for 2006. It was more or less a done deal that Rudholm would drive the second one, but when his sponsors backed down the spot is now open.

In an interview in Värmlands Folkblad Pontus Mörth is saying that STCC is where he wants to be in 2006. Hopefully with Volvo. Carrera Cup Scandinavia is also an option.

The same newspaper also talked with Tommy Kristoffersson who thinks that Colciago would be interested in a comeback.

Finally an update on the Opel team, and it's a good one! Tommy Rustad heading off to do rallycross does not mean the team will slow down - quite the opposite, actually, as they are currently preparing to build a completely new 2006 Opel Astra for the coming season. The team has also been in contact with several drivers to take Rustad's place, and the team hopes to have everything settled later this month. Sounds good to me

When it comes to the car they used last year, which proved to be quite competitive, the team has indicated they will prepare that one as well for the coming season, even though there are no firm plans in place for it just yet.

Wasn't Rustad's car an extra BTC car? I thought the STCC is running to S2000 rules? Or a I correct in guessing the STCC is giving Opel a waiver/exception?

Originally it was an ex-BTCC car when first brought over, yes (which was around 2002-2003, IIRC), but as far as I know it was finally modified to fit S2000 specifications in time for the 2005 season. It had previously been run under the special regulations within the STCC that allow for BTCC-cars to be used.

The Opel Team Sweden has, via the STCC website, posted the following sketch of what the 2006 car might look like:

WTCC might be but there are also other 2- or 3-door S2000 cars in national championships.

Opel Team Sweden is developping new Astra together with OPC. This should be a big benefit for Vauxhall then they'll have a ready S2000 car for 2007 BTCC season.

No, but I think in WTCC there's a gentlemens agreement between manufacturers to use only cars with 4 doors.

Was/is Neste Futura Green Racing really used in STCC? Is that actually a really good racing fuel (AFAIK all Finnish racng / rallying series use it) or is it just cheaper than any other?

Rumour is that Flash had/has a deal with a swedish manufacturer for STCC/WTCC but that the deal went bust as the american owners budget turned out to be looking grim...

The owner of the car was going to be American or was the sponsor American?

It seems to be that it was Saab that Flash was on the verge of getting a contract with last season, but the economy of GM is as we all know rotten...

oohh, Saaab. I suspect it would have been a S2000 Saab 93 then? Yeah, I've always wanted to see that car or it's predecessor being raced. I recall there was supposed to be even a ST Saab 900 back in '90s with technical support by Saab Sweden. I think the team abandoned it's plan and turned the car into an endurance racer instead b/c it was cheaper?

Yeah it would be great to have a Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan in touring car racing.

Some Audi rumours:

Kristoffersson has been to Germany and had meetings with Audi and is cautiously (spelling?) optimistic about the prospect of a good 2006 with really competitive Audis.

He has also brought Colciago along to the Stockholm Motorsport Games where now all the previous STCC winners (and a bunch of other swedish racing guys) will compete in karting. Flash, Ekblom, Ekström, Göransson, Rustad and Colciago on the same karting track will be quite exciting.

Anyway... is Colciago's apperance at this event a sign that he's indeed returning to Audi and the STCC?
