The great thing about Barbagello was the complete lack of knowledge as to how the strategies would pan out and who'd got it right. Somehow, after a few duller seasons, V8s have become exciting again. Best in the world? Probably not, but at the top end, sure. And while you're all complaining the V8 platform is dead, the rest of us are thinking 'lucky them, proper big V8s...' |

Again, there's every chance that was my fault and yes, the actual on track product was superb, but not knowing what's happening is different to not knowing what will come of something that you do know is happening. (Known knowns, known unknowns.....dammit Leo....) |

Leo - watching on TEN or FOXTEL? I find that when watching highlights it is more difficult to follow the ebb and flow of the races - all the little lap by lap nuances are lost. I'm still not a Foxtel user myself, yet ...

Foxtel, Mikey. I know what you mean about highlights, I try to avoid them wherever possible.
I think what I'm talking about might just come down to the way that TV coverage can sometimes miss some of the minor details in the bigger picture. Through the endurance races, I always have the live timing nearby, which makes the different strategy paths of the different runners far easier to follow. |

Over the years I have read a lot of negative comments about V8SC and Australian motorsport in general. A critical approach is good but often I think you Aussies should be more proud and bless what you have down under. A country with less than 25 million people has bigger and better national series than Italy and Spain and is on par with the UK.

You do realize the Group A he's talking about and the Group 3A regulation 1993-1996 cars were under completely different rulesets, and we all know which one he's talking about when he says Group A, don't you?

You and I both know what he meant when he said Group A. Stop being so stubborn.

The VP/VR Commodore's and EB/EF Falcon's that raced between 1993-1996 were referred to as Group A cars by the teams, the drivers, the TV commentators and all the press (even the specialist press like Auto Action and Motorsport News). The cars even carried "Group A" stickers. |

Even American sports, while keeping a careful eye on making sure the regs didn't spoil the show, used to be much more of a sport than now. |

It's a good spectacle for the most part however the inconsistency upstairs gets tiresome. For the best touring car series in the world, the teams certainly don't feel very confident in the future however.

I don't know why there is so much criticism of SUPERCARS, note the lack of V8 in that. It is a good spectacle for those who are into that sort of thing but tends to be a little boring at times due to restrictive rules and regs and a bit follow the leader because of it. Things are about to change and let's hope the rules don't stifle that change too much but a Leopard does not change his spots so I guess they will follow the well worn recipe of preventing anything that looks like innovative thinking from happening. Restrictive regs have always resulted in huge amounts of folding being spent on minute changes for very little result and generally one team dominates when they perfect it. For all the faults of bygone classes most of them allowed some technical advances which made things interesting.
