I had heard about the Mars lander, but the story I got was the approach alltitude was calculated by the yanks in miles, and the poms did the all the computer calculations thinking it was in kays. Down here in Australia we had the pleasure of both metric and imperial nuts and bolts in one vehicle. The Commodore had Yank (GM) running gear and a German (Opel) body.

I remember having a nicely engraved pint pot in my local, got it from the BSA owner's club (when I spent more time playing with two wheels rather than four). The landlord, while pratting around, dropped it, and it smashed in a thousand pieces.
He gave me a new pot as a replacement. To the annoyance of many, with a bicycle bell on the handle. Then one day, some time later (years!), someone bought me a pint, brimming in a standard straight glass. I decided to decant it into my own personal pint pot, only to find that.... it wasn't an Imperial pint, but a US Pint!! That's 7/8 of a Imp. Pint. Ratbag landlord had been doing me out of 1/8 pint each time! 1 pint a night!! Swine! And if you think that the Commodore is a mix up, I found a chinese made piece of tackle that had mixed UNF, Metric, and Whitworth!! I suppose if I'd tried looking closer, I'd have found BA!! Rob. |

Why is it so many battery terminals at least aftermarket ones have some totally obscure BSF or something nut and bolt, you can never find a ruddy spanner to fit them.

Why can you get a imperial and metric adjustable spanner?

the imperial ones fly remarkably well too straight thorugh windscreens in my experience
got annoyed with one that was slightly too bulky for the job i was doing and heaved it over my shoulder, only to hear a thud and tinkle sound Last edited by imull; 13 Apr 2005 at 23:18. |

If you're buying all that lot, you'll probably qualify for one of their free Snap-On tee shirts. They're excellent value at only £19.99

I once checked some deliveries on site and opened a box of M16 nuts . . .they had no threads in them . . .now we've all used self tappig screws, but !
I do have an adjustable spanner with a measure on the side ! (metric) |

BSF, BSP, UNC, UNF, ACME, Wyle-E-Coyote, Whitworth, BA, etc..there's nowt like Imperial measurements.
One of my buddies is an engineer, and a youngster trained in these modern days of metric Great Britain, yet he works in thou because he says it's easier to comprehend for small/minute measurements. As for the tartan paint, etc.. don't forget to go for a dip in the typing pool during your lunch break (He's only the apprentice, and we're only having fun! - to quote a well known Australian chap) I've had the "nip to the stores and ask for a long weight" while doing my training... and a few other electronic jollies too. Rob. |

all the usual ones ahve failed with the school kid that we have working at my company, except we got him to go fetch a bucket of air from the neighbouring company. They proceeded to blow air into it with the compressor and send him back with an aggregate sack placed over the top lol

When I was young I was working with a factory cleaning company. We were cleaning a ceiling, climbing around on high tressels and gantries, and there was a section in the middle we couldn't quite reach. The foreman said that we needed to get a crawl board across the gap but we'd need to support it in the middle to be safe. He sent me off to ask the charge hand for one of the extra-long stands in the store room....
It just sounded so plausible |
