Bruno Senna was eighth fastest in official testing, despite only doing 31 laps (compared to the fastest driver, Joao Urbano, who did 77). That's not a bad start at all!

Apparently the reason he did so few laps was because he went off at the start of the session, and they then had to fix his car so he could set some times.

Said it on another thread but thats a damn good effort, especially around the Brands Indy circuit where you can lose so many places by just being a couple of tenths off the pace.
Lets see how he copes with the pressure of a full race weekend though.... |

Interesting one this as i also read that he has done 10 full day tests in the last month. Not an inconsiderable amount of testing. I have returned to competition in NW Formula Ford late in the season this year and our champion Stephen Roberts is also finishing his season in BMW, starting this weekend. I will be watching Motors TV with interest.

Senna has tested at Pembrey and Snetterton, but his performance so far is no less impressive.

His performance should be more than impressive after 10 days testing. Thats more time than i spend in my house in a month.

Bear in mind the other drivers have been in the car all season.

Yes, but 10 days of testing (if that's true), is a far more intensive test programme than any regular Formula BMW runner is allowed, hence why the rules state that it's not allowed and therefore he won't be scoring any championship points.

I don't think it's necessarily as much as ten days he's done.
My point is, that his mileage in the car, in total, is less than the regular runners. Anway, we're splitting hairs. Best of luck to him and all the FBMW drivers this weekend. |

I guess it's personal preference what you think is best - there are advantages and disadvantages of doing lots of testing over a spread out time, or less in a more intense period. I'll find out exactly what he's done in BMW this weekend. He has, apparently, also driven an FRenault car back in Brazil.

Still the kid hadn't raced for 10 years up until this!
And even if he has done 10 days testing I'm sure that still doesn't add up to the amount of testing, qualifying and racing all the other guys have done over the course of this season. |

I am rooting for Stephen Roberts. Guess he would be seen as an outsider but in my opinion a dark horse.

I hope Stephen goes well too.
It'd show there's a lot of untapped talent out there in the club ranks. |

Does anyone know why Bruno races under his mother's maiden last name and not his fathers name

It's quite normal for Brazilians to do that. His uncles full name was Ayrton Senna da Silva, da Silva being his dads surname. Brazilians tend to use their mothers maiden name.

Or the more cynical might argue that he's using the Senna brand to attract attention to himself.
