Cuttently on ebay theres a 71 RS1600 looking imaculate and fresh BDA. £27600.Quite a few bids on it.Judging from the cars in the background of the shots, looks like a collector or maybe a trader???

"Never raced or rallied"- Those were the days when selling a car.......

Andy, have seen the car you mention at Portimao. They seem to run to a loose Gp1+ in Portugal, and no mention of HTP.... The flat front was homologated, but not really period correct for a race car. Useful for rallying as lighter and if you hit anything you didn't destroy an expensive polyurethane moulding!

Terence, Mk1 RS1600s are in a different ball park. Much rarer! There is a classified on fleabay for a big winged road car asking £52.5K. BTW The seller of the car you mention reckons he paid £50K for it, but if you read closely it is not immaculate, and looking at pics there is no evidence of standard fit axle radius arms. Been re-shelled at some point also. If it goes for much more would be surprised! (But also happy, as would mean my two RS16s are worth more than I thought! )

Must admit Mike, when I read "fresh BDA", I did wonder if its the result of of quantity of accumulated spares.
RE prices, quite ago, never expected a mk2 capri to ever realise the prices they can archive.

Off topic a bit, but a certain Marcos for sale on RCD for £70K, Terence. Won the odd championship your side of the channel......

My conclusion after thinking the job through is to place ads on 3 well known sales websites, and a classified on the auction website. Even if doing all that doesn't generate a sale, it will give as wide a coverage as possible, and it could be that a 'word of mouth' sale is eventually generated by the coverage.....

As always, cars that haven't a fixed price are only worth what someone is prepared to pay, what I have found is that the "majority" of bidders for rarer types of cars are speculators hoping to turn them around in a short while and make a "few quid" !

Back in the late 80s when the "Classic Car" fiasco started in anger I had a "rarerish" car for sale and was phoned up with an offer, within 20 mins I had a phone call from a mate that said he had been offered my car from a "third party" for a hefty bit more than I was offered, and I still had the car !

Effectively what the guy on the programme did with his 8.2M Euro collection of course, try to offset it before doing the deal. Its cheeky, but I guess even after shipping they probably cleared 1.5M Euros on that deal, so its obviously me that's doing something wrong......

Just watched that C4 programme.

So Arthur Dailey hasn't died?

People with that mindset screwed the classic car hobby last time and will do it again.

The daft bint in the showroom buying the Bentley, and the salesman with a taller mans trousers on. I've seen sharper tools in a toddlers toy box.

I didn't actually see the program over here as I've better things to do like / go down the beach bar/go down the beach bar/go down the beach bar ! however it sounds like I could have written the script !

I'll see if I can get it on catch up via my Laptop.

I got the impression there weren't even any shipping costs, didn't he have the cheek to turn up to collect the cars with the customer (who seemed to be the same nationality as the original vendor) he was trying to sell them to?

Presumably some people are impressed by the daft clothing, rough looking premises, greasy spoon café and parking the Silver Ghost on double yellows but I've not talked to anyone who was - of course I've not talked to any of the extremely wise (!) city investor types who are apparently 'driving the market'.

Did show that if you have access to large amounts of money it is easy to make large amounts of money but I doubt I'm the only one who's realised that over the years.

If the ID was genuine it would spur bidders on to spending more than the sum of the parts. The listing has gone now, but if it went for circa £34k, that's a big hit from £50k seller said they paid for it.....

Going back to the thread, I spent couple of hours putting an ad on one of the websites discussed this afternoon. Half an hour later, the phone rings, more pics were emailed, and the caller is coming to see the car tomorrow eve......

Not bad for a start, but never count my chickens!

Staying with the Million Pound Motors' subject......Tom Hartley is 53 years old???? That's my age!
Frankly, I think I'll stick with the day job if this one makes you look as old as Tom!

Getting back to the topic.......I have just listed a 50s sports car on a few sites etc, but I also have built a very simple website to host some photos etc. If you go to 123-reg you can be an .xyz domain for 99p for one year, for example www.bdaescort.xyz for Mike. You need somewhere to host the page you make (which I did in WORD) but I thought it worth the effort

not a bad idea, I used to list stuff on my website, but faceache, fleabay and others have basically blown everything out of the water as far as exposure goes

I have also tried an ad in the post war bit of prewarcar.com.....which unimaginatively is called postwarcar.com

prewarcar.com has good coverage in europe for prewar stuff and the chap who runs it is a nice guy so I am less reluctant to give him a few quid. racecarsdirect is £40
