No live qualifying on TV, but from live timing - things are looking weird!
Firstly, di Resta's in the top 8 and therefore our highest Brit before the last segment. Stoddart is 2nd, so she's outqualified Carroll, Paffett & Green! Mercedes on the whole looking dodgy, I only see Hakkinen & Spengler in the top 8 in the new shape cars, whereas Audi is faring far better. Last edited by Hazard; 21 Apr 2007 at 12:16. |

I believe di Resta's just qualified 3rd? Spengler on pole from Tomczyk.
(Unconfirmed) Wow. |

I'll say Hazard, pretty good day for di Resta, and la Rosa - was that a steering rack problem in the final round (my German's not so good)? What happened to Green and Schneider.....yikes! Worth noting, Ekström actually had the fastest lap in 2nd qualifying, I think.

That's a terrific look at the "startaufstellung" Hazard, thanks. Seems there's just a few bugs still to be worked out on a some of those cars. Hopefully it adds some real spice in the race tomorrow.
Paul di Resta third in a 2005 car.....wonderful. |

If it's a 2005 car, indeed - incredible. It might be an '06 though as team mates Paffett & Margaritis are using. Rest works I think. Edit: Found where I got it, so yes - it is a 2005 car! |

No surprise. Widely expected due to the huge weight advantage 05 cars have this year.

If all the 05's were higher-up on the grid Alfa Fan, I'd agree with you. Still lots of bugs to be worked-out up and down the grid, but they obviously found a sweet spot with the car, that others didn't, and di Resta put in a great lap.

Disappointed Motors TV didn't show qualifying; it isn't as if they had a clashing event. Still with a good mix in the top 10 it looks as if we're in for a close season. Great performance by di Resta; and Carroll just a tenth off Paffett.

Ekström won. 2. Tomczyk 3. Spengler
Huge crash in L1. Kristensen, Premat, Stoddard and Carroll not at restart. |

Don't know if I should've had "spoilers" on the thread title or not.
Boy, Mercedes' has some work to do on their 07's.....yikes! |

Rather odd race - shortened, insane strategies. Abt Audi almost took a 1-2-3 from nowhere, when it looked like di Resta and Spengler would reign. Strange.
Race Result

Yes, where the hell did Ekstrom and Tomczyk come from ! I too thought it'd end up as a Spengler - Di Resta finish.
Nasty accident at the start, seems Kristensen at least was taken off to hospital, although he was apparently OK, hopefully just for some precautionary scans. |

And whilst I remember, whats this of Carlton Kirby making out that Abt is some sort of bully ? From where I saw it, a Mercedes (Schneider I think) banged into him which no doubt broke his suspension.

That was a very nasty crash.
The race itself was nothing special. Dissapointing result for Green, Hakkinen and Schneider. They have a lot work to do. |

Spengler gets 50 seconds penalty for contact with Scheider. The Canadian drops to 14th.

I think Audi were a little lucky today as Di Resta probably would've won if it wasn't for having a terrible strategy. I'm amazed that Kristensen wasn't seriously injured after that considering it was side on.
