If Germany is to only have one race, yesterday's evidence suggests it must be at Hockenheim.

The 'other' German GP is the European GP at Nurburgring. Can we have an F1 season without going to the 'ring? I guess we went a year without Spa.

I dunno what Bernie's plans are, but perhaps it's time for another country to host the European GP for a while. Or replace it with another one outside Europe. Although it would be a shame to lose the 'ring from the calendar.

I have to say I'm no great fan of the new Hockenheim circuit, but no-one can deny it played a part in such a great race yesterday. Maybe with only one race in Germany the seats at Hockenheim would be filled...

PS: Ring can also ge the GP of Luxembourg. It's been done before, no big deal.

We managed without the Nurburgring from 1977-84 and 1986-1994.

Nobody is bothered about what it's called - if it bores the tits off you and doesn't sell tickets then plain business says it shouldn't be on the calendar!

If you can't get people to pay any amount of money to go so see a race e.g. the hardcore fans, how can you hope to get a large TV audience who have 300 channels and a remote control on their knee?

The only contact the F1 wallahs have with F1 fans is on a circuit-by-circuit basis...they ignore them at their peril!

There were 106.000 spectators at raceday at the nuerbrgring this season. That´s less than last year, but still impressive.
There are so many seats that´s why it lookes quite empty-same with hockenheim.
Silverstone was sold out-but what was the capacity.
Magny Cours had 75.000, that was deemed a success.I guess they should pull done houldn't be on the calendar!
Maybe the Greman organizers should pull a lot of stands down. Then a crowd of 100.000 would look great.

Quite easily it seems.

Additionally they are very different kinds of audiences. The people in charge care more about the later than the smaller former group.

If any sport improves its popularity it does it by attracting more fans who aren't hardcore. These are also more likely to buy Tic Tacs (or whatever) on the strength of it too, not least because there are some many more of them.

To be fair I don't have strong feelings about this, but popularity doesn't bother me too much. As long as it is popular enough to be on telly (live) that is good enough for me.

But what I'm saying is (and the telly figures still aren't that good) is that if the hardcore fans are going out and paying lots of money for tickets, then there aren't going to be any softcore casual F1 fans.

I always watch the GPs...my Dad watches them if a) they're exciting, and b) I'm at home.

How many other people do you think have this same sort of pattern? Millions.

It's the casual fans that are worth the most money...

I dissagree...

The real fans...The ones that go to races...are where the money is.

They buy the advertised product, the team clothing with sponsors logos on them etc... thus creating more advertising for the masses to see.

No - the casual fans who sit at home and see the adverts on the television and on the cars buy the products because they feel insecure. Because they want to feel loved, because people feel safe with products.

Kylie doesn't take her clothes off for her gay fanbase - she's doing it for me, so I'll buy her CDs...

Why would Vodafone have adverts with Michael Schumacher and David Beckham in otherwise?

It's not the hardcore fans.
