Given Whincup said the car was ok, but not great, they must be pumped for a big weekend coming up when they get it right.

LOL at anyone drawing any definitive conclusions from practice sessions - particularly for a race meeting with parc ferme in place after qualifying. Meaning that some may not be intending to run a "full on" Q setup and so may have not tested it, some tried different warm up techniques for tyres, some ran full car sets of new tyres, some didn't, the list is long.
Race weekend would be more definitive, scheduled aero test between here and PI more definitive again and PI itself yet more definitive. We'll see what pans out. At least now they all have the same CoG so that reasoning / excuse / answer has now been resolved - bat on. |

It isnt really even sandbagging.... more a case of what was the function of P2? Answer, to hone in on a set up that deals with Parc Ferme rules, and finish in the top 10 and avoid having to run Q1, keeping a set of tyres in the bank. All the fancied runners did that. Job done.
No points for finishing practice quickest today. |

One wonders if the Ford protagonists ever expected the catagory to ramp up their methods of seeking parity, and so early in the season?
Perhaps, some could argue that up til recently, the methods of parity testing have been somewhat antiquated given the simulation technology teams have access to, and that teams have taken full advantage of this? |

So did the Nissan...
Regardless of who's done a better job of getting a car through homologation, it's a parity series, and the catagory must manage that. |

They’ve never gone to such lengths so quickly to ‘manage’ parity that I can remember . Including hurriedly writing new rules.

Takes a special ability to sandbag six cars across two teams, to be within 3 tenths of each other. Wonderful orchestration.
But brand new shiny COG rules could be written after one round. Remarkable given theyd only tested at one track, and raced at a street circuit. |

There are already CoG rules for engine so it would be easy to write something similar for the car overall when needed. Composite panels (to improve CoG) were introduced last year for Ford and Nissan after one round (Adelaide) with the rule dealing with bodywork "tuck" brought in after 3 rounds. |

Bodywork tucking was just a rewording of an already existing rule. It listed a maximum width, but not minimum.
They should have done COG testing after 2 rounds last year. Or better yet, before the start of the season. Simple solution would have been to ballast up the ZB, then review it at years end with the new Mustang and revised Altima. Would have saved a shed load of money, but Roland had us all believe, there was no advantage with composite panels.... Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk |
