On the original question. The very fact that Reutemann signed for Ferrari while Lauda was lying helpless at hospital could be considered as an "act of war" from Lauda's point of view. Of couse there was considerable embarressment for Ferrari at Monza 1976 as they suddenly had three drivers with a contract who wanted to race.

Peter!
They all were on M26s (except non-qualifier Trimmer) Check about Lunger here... http://www.motorracingretro.i12.com/gp78/78gbr30.jpg |

BS had also an M26 at their disposal, so I think Lunger would've have driven that car.

Lauda said that Reutemann had a "cold, unappetizing character". When you read the Roebuck comments higher up in this thread, the contrary comes to mind.

Now let's see. The M23 was a 1974(?) car. It ran for two seasons taking it to the end of 1976. Are then saying that McLaren were a factory and privateer supplier to match Lotus or even Cooper in the sixties?
It's amazing how a discussion can turn on a simple comment (Mine sadly). Keep going because although I wass at a lot of these races I don't recall all of this. Must be getting really old. |

From my memory of the era, Reutemann was never really considered the equal of Lauda, just as Jones was not. I don't think many put lole on the same plane as Jones, either, and his consistency was revered in that string of points wins rather than any charging ability.
Having said that, I appreciate that he could charge, and he did so, but I think he had a lot going for him in that Peter Windsor was very much on his side in the publicity stakes. |

I think Lauda was the better driver as well.
Should Lole indeed run for president, this spanish book on him could get translated. Could be a good read. |

The Justicialist Party turned to neo-liberal ideology in the economical areas, not much in the political areas, because that they supported the privatizations of the principal state services in this country (light, gas, water, telephones, national airline, post office, YPF), and we have many orthodox neo-liberals on the Ministery of Economy (Nestor Rapanelli, Roque Fernandez, Carlos Rodriguez, Pedro Pou) and also a main part of the Argentinian sector of banks and finances are with the neo-liberal polytics. Some of us Argentinians thinks the Congress and the President Menem itself SOLD the country during the Menem administration. Now we suffer all the consequences of the economical decisions of that period, with a diminished state, a big unemployment, and a foreing debt we can't pay with these usurary interest imposed by mortgages. |

Fines,
Also you are right about your appreciation of the Governor of Buenos Aires Carlos Ruckauf. He is a right-wing Peronist but in economics area he must got in the line of the actual politic on Argentinian economy. He also is my Governor because I live in the Province of Buenos Aires, on the San Isidro "party" (it means a mayoralty, like a county in the U.S.) what is governed by mayor Gustavo Posse (Alianza/Radicalism). The city of Buenos Aires (the capital of Argentina) is an regime of autonomy, and BA citizens can vote his mayor. The actual mayor is Anibal Ibarra (Alianza/Frepaso). |

Questions for our knowledgeable reporter in BA, Mekola: When will it become clear whether Lole is a contender for the next presidential elections? Is there a point in time when this has to be announced? Do the current economic issues reduce his chances, as he is no trained economist?
Another question on the topic of this thread, Lauda vs. Reutemann: In Rio 1982 they collided in the race. What happened? |
