What about Dracone? I thought he had just a deal for the first 4 rounds and isn't yet safe for Indy?

Yes, that's what Dale Coyne said in an interview: 4 races for Dracone. However, he also said that he would announce their driver for the Indy 500 "next week", but that was before the GP of NOLA. I guess we'll find out in time who it's going to be.

VITOR IN THE COYNE CAR?

Vitor Meira, a nine-time Indy starter and two-time runner-up, may wind up in one of Dale Coyne's two open seats for the Indy 500.
The popular Brazilian last competed at Indy in 2011 but friends say he's heading to IMS with the plan of getting into No. 18 or No. 19 for Coyne. James Davison and Katherine Legge are also vying for those seats.

Does anyone have an idea who might be getting the 3rd Coyne seat alongside Huertas and Mann?

Just wondering.

Hoping it's Vitor Meira, but not sure.

There are three candidates:

Meira would be nice, but I think that's not very likely.
Legge and Davison are more likely.

Davison was in the car for practice today, but he will be racing a GT car at Mosport on qualifying weekend. So the suggestion is that Tristan Vautier will have to qualify the car for him, assuming Indycar allows that.

Indy 500 rules have always allowed that

Its the car that qualifies for the race, not the driver (though Davison will have to start from the rear no matter where Vautier qualifies it)

Are you sure about it being the car that qualifies? In 1994 when both Penske drivers were having trouble getting up to speed with their Penskes, Rahal-Hogan Racing announced that they would supply Penske with back-up cars. Prior to this Al Unser Jr. had already borrowed a car from Pagan Racing but to no avail. In the end the outcome was neither Emerson Fittipaldi or Al Unser Jr., the winners of the previous three Indy 500s, failed to qualify.

Yes, it was. That particular year Penske exploited a loophole and used an Ilmor-prepaired Mercedes pushrod engine.

The 1994 1ndy 500 was won by Al Unser Jr., driving a Penske with the rebadged Mercedes, Ilmor pushrod engine.
