CAMS have just released this statement:
CAMS STATEMENT 2002 V8 Supercar Championship Series Clipsal 500 race results final CAMS has not received any appeals regarding the CAMS Inquiry findings thaT were handed down on 9 May and have confirmed that the amended Race Results from the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide are final. The CAMS Inquiry found that the extra lap awarded to car 34 for having been incorrectly held behind the safety car at this year's Clipsal 500 was, in all the circumstances, an over compensation. The Tribunal reduced the allowance to half a lap, placing car 34 in 6th position. Under the provisions of CAMS National Competition Rule 171, the inquiry was held on 15 April 2002 to investigate the Stewards determination made during Leg 1 of the 2002 Clipsal 500 to credit car 34 with a lap following the deployment of the safety car. Amended race results are as follows: 1. Car #1 - Mark Skaife, Holden Racing Team 2. Car #51 - Greg Murphy, K-Mart Racing Team 3. Car #4 - Marcos Ambrose, Pirtek Racing 4. Car #00 - Craig Lowndes, Ford/Mobil/Dunlop 5. Car #16 - Steven Richards, Castrol Perkins Race Team 6. Car #34 - Garth Tander, Garry Rogers Motorsport 7. Car #66 - Tony Longhurst, Betta Electrical The finishing positions from 8th place onwards remain unchanged. |

Yeah, I loaded it up, cut off my net connection so I could read it, then went off on a tangent and left the computer for the week

I understand more than the joker got it wrong in that event - it is impossible to get proper outright results from it as well - first time since 1986 no outright results have been made available.
And the reason? They didn't bother checking the electronic timing lines before the event and guess what wasn't working properly?? (Which the track had been made aware of over the previous 2 years!) |
